Woo I found a silver lining

We are 105 on the Sagarin rating. If we continue to suck that only gets worse directly affecting TUOSU's computer rating.

If we are going down we're dragging those scumbags from ohio with us. This becomes especially relevant considering the abundance of one loss teams with MNC hopes.

"I feel confident saying that Ohio State doesn't have a chance in hell of going to the national championship."

I don't.  Consider: there are 11 teams ranked ahead of them in the AP poll.  I know, I know - it doesn't count in the BCS.  Bear with me, and assume for a minute here that OSU wins out.

Five of them are Big 12 teams, only one of which would be allowed to go.  Assume that's Texas, and scratch the rest: OSU now ranked 8th.  3 teams are SEC - again, only one can go. Scratch two and OSU is 6th.  Penn State is one - scratch them 'cause we're assuming they get beat by OSU.  That leaves BYU, USC, and a Big 12 and SEC rep, say Texas and Alabama.  OSU would easily leapfrog BYU by winning out against the Big Ten sked.  So, only three teams truly stand in their way: USC and two teams which must play a conference title game.  Yikes.  And USC has been beaten by Oregon State - they can get beat again.

What I feel confident in saying is that if OSU wins out, the chances of them going to the title game are better than 50/50, IMO.

Now, I don't think they will win out.  They're playing with fire.  They haven't been crushing the life out of their opponents like they did last year.  Minny, Wisconsin, Purdue....they've all kept it close.  I don't know if it's PSU or MSU or what, but there's another loss on OSU's schedule somewhere, and then I think we're in the clear, those of us who would barf on our TV sets if we turn them on to see scarlet and gray in the title game again.

In that case, OSU would need 2 of the 3 teams above them (Big 12 champ, SEC champ, USC) to get knocked out of NC contention because there's no way in hell OSU gets in over USC, the Big 12 champ or the SEC champ. Wouldn't surprise me to see a 2 loss champ from the B12/SEC get in over 1 loss OSU. If OSU got blocked out like that no one would be dissapointed except for OSU fans, who themselves might be happy to not see themselves be publically humiliated for the 3rd straight year

I'd be very surprised to see a 2-loss team get in over a 1-loss OSU.  Wins over PSU and MSU would be considered pretty good, especially since PSU is currently ranked #3.  You're right....two of the three would have to get knocked out of contention, but there are plenty of chances for that.  Obviously, yeah, USC wins any tie, but I don't feel too confident saying they won't lose again.  I really think in order for OSU to drop out of national title contention they'll have to do it to themselves.  So I'll be pulling hard for Sparty this weekend.

tOSU would be near the last of the one-loss BCS conference teams to get a shot and would probably be behind an undefeated Utah or BYU even.  That assumes it can somehow run the table in the Big Ten as well.

If anyone is looking for a real silver lining, there's a lot of freshman getting significant playing time, which will bode well for next season.  If you're going to lose, better to do it with freshman and sophomores than seniors.
