Wolverines in the NFL -Week 9-

Submitted by UMProud on

• Green Bay Packers' linebacker Jake Ryan recorded 10 tackles, including six solo tackles, in the Packers' loss to the Carolina Panthers. The 10 tackles set a career high for Ryan, who is in his rookie season with Green Bay. In five previous games, he had recorded just four total tackles.

• Carolina Panthers' wide receiver Devin Funchess turned in his best game as a professional. He set a season high in receiving yards, receptions and touchdowns. In the contest, he caught three passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, including a 52-yard catch that led to a Carolina touchdown.

• Oakland Raiders' free safety Charles Woodson recorded eight tackles, seven of which were solo, in the Raiders' 38-35 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Woodson's eight tackles set a new season high.

• Philadelphia Eagles' linebacker Brandon Graham recorded seven tackles, all that were solo, and two sacks in the Eagles' 33-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. His seven tackles matched a season high that he set at Washington on Oct. 4.

• Quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots sit at 8-0 this season following a victory over the Washington Redskins. Brady threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-10 win. Brady registered his eighth straight game with two or more touchdown passes.

• New York Jets' linebacker David Harris totaled four tackles, including three solo, in the Jets' 28-23 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jets' defense allowed just 98 total rushing yards.

Wow. Quite an impressive week for these guys. David Harris has quietly been an extremely productive LB for the jets. He doesn't get a lot of love nationally, but he's been a mainstay in that defense

Looking forward to the day when there are many more Harbaugh mentored players in the NFL from Michigan. Without the longevity of Woodson and Brady our showing in the League would be weak. Drink milk, eat steak, come learn under Harbaugh, and go do great things in the NFL you Men of Michigan.

While Funchess gave up towards the end of his career here at Michigan he would have been that much better if he played under Jim. Can you imagine if we had hime this year, he would have helped a lot and become better at what he does.

Didn't he also have a broken foot or something? That might have something to do with his performance, if so. One of Hoke's worst qualities was his complete lack of injury acknowledgement. As if by denying the injury you could make people play better. IIRC, when Devin broke a bone in his foot (maybe a toe?)/ Hoke's reported response was "I don't want to hear it." I also blame him for Denard's nerve damage exacerbation, which he played with for 3 or 4 games. And this little gem wasn't paid much attention in the Morris fiasco, but when asked why he thought Morris didn't go down, Hoke said something along the lines of "If he didn't want to be our QB any more, he could have." So I'm betting that under Hoke, more than most other coaches, there were a lot of undisclosed injuries. Because that's the environment he created. Sorry for the rant. Yeah, Funchess would be nice to have, but it's not like the receivers are the issue with our deep passing game... Personally, I think he'd be wasted thia year. Glad for him that he's in the NFL.

With the Lions being "my team" since my childhood, following the nFL is a fruitless venture.

As for Denard, I only know what I've read about him here on MGoBlog over the preceding several months.   Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but I believe he was still recovering from off-season surgery when camp opened in August and got a late start to the regular season.  Jags have been going with and Alabama rookie at tailback, so Denard has more-or-less been relegated to the bench, even though (last I read) he's now healthy.
