Wings Win Game 3!

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on

So we surprisingly don't have an open thread yet, but the wings are about to start the third period with a 2-0 lead. Obviously this is a must-win game.

Go Wings!

EDIT: Game over. Wings win. Shutout by Mrazek. Next game Tuesday.

Defense has been a lot better. Limiting space and shots for most part.

Mrazek really hasn't been tested or had to keep TB in check.

AA looks great.

Awesome hit by Justin toward the end. Game four is going to be really rough; lots of fights, I foresee.

Just wanted to drop this somewhere people will see it.

Friend of a friend is an usher at nippert stadium, said they have all been told we will find out if big 12 is expanding by June 1st.

I despise the Hawks but the 2 goals you speak of are no where near the same.  Mason's gaffe was arguably the worst goal in NHL playoff history.  The one Crawford let in hit a shin pad, bounced downward off the ice, and bounced up into the top corner.  Not exactly the same as a 100 foot tipped shot from center ice.

Awesome goal by Athanasiou. A lotta puck luck on the 2nd goal: broken stick on initial shot, puck bounces off the boards, goalie misplays it, it goes off both Zetterberg's skates without a distinct kicking motion for the goal.

Not many penalties at the end: Abs & Boyle got 10 min misconducts, as did Killorn; Carle got 2 min for slashing. I guess Lightning guys on the bench can mug our players all they want. Boyle got away with the chickenshit sucker punch, with an assist from the linesman grabbing Abs, who still had his gloves on. WTF?!

Was my first Wings playoff game in a long time. Holy shit, that was much fun. Don't think I've ever been a crowd that raucous at the Joe before, maybe some of the Stanley Cup games in the late 90s come close.

Brendan Smith made Blashall look like a genius by playing the way he did last night. He was all over the ice. Blocking shots, drawing plenties, couple timely bone crushing checks and lastly protecting his captain at the end of the game. I was very impressed and hope he gives this effort more regularly.  I thought he should have been the 3rd star last night.

If Blashill really were a genius, Smith would have been playing this entire time with the awful defense we have. I'm still bitter about AA being stuck on the 4th line when all he does is make things happen.

It's frustrating to watch the youngsters sit because Blashill and Holland want to play "low-event" hockey. I played and I definitely get why you want to try to win 1-0 and 2-1 games when you're going to be outgunned, but when that's not working you might as well unshackle the kids and let them learn and grow.

Was really surprised how young the crowd was that came out for this game. Felt like most of the people there were between 26-35.

Initially I was kinda meh when they played EDM after some stoppages, but it really got the crowd going. I started to enjoy it!
