Who will redshirt in '09?

Submitted by jerseyblue on
There's always a few. Obviously Taylor Lewan will. Any insight into who else?

Jeremy Gallon - Slot WR - Vincent Smith - RB - Teric Jones - RB I think these 3 redshirt due to depth at current position Adrian Witty - DB I think he redshirts due to injury.

no way they RS? i bet none of those guys see the field. yeah, i see your argument that RR loves these guys but also we already have a lot of depth at RB and even slot although not to the same extent. also, all of the OL will redshirt. witty will redshirt. roh and perhaps lalota will redshirt. 1 of our QB's will redshirt and if i had to choose today i'd say d-rob. gordon will RS.

strength does matter though. what is the point of burning a year of eligibility if he is going to be ineffective since he'll just be getting pushed around? i think both of these guys have great potential but their contributions, if any, in their freshmen years will be minimal. but i also think that of a lot of this class versus last year when we had a lot of guys step in right away.

Strength does matter, but he's already got technique and speed. Roh is 230 right now. I'm sure he can put on 10 or 15 pounds before September (if I can do it, he can, too!). Look at it this way: SDE Graham VanBergen Banks Patterson (who has moved to DT but could probably play DE) Lalota WDE ............Graham? Roh

Hawthorne. They're listing him at 197. He could conceivably play special teams but more likely they'll give him a year to add muscle. This is also true (but less so) about Bell and Jones. Of course, they haven't played LB before, so if they're switching positions a redshirt would be more likely than not. All the OL redshirt. Wouldn't be suprised to see Stokes redshirt too, as there are a lot of guys competing at outside WR.

....but wouldn't it be easier to talk about who wont be redshirting. I say all but 3-4 will redshirt. Big Will, Turner, probably boths QBs and perhaps Stokes and Rohe are the only ones who will see the field next year. Nevertheless the 2011, 2012 teams will be good as these guys hit their collegiate strides.

he's probably going to handle some of the kicking duties. But I agree with your six as the ones likely to contribute somewhere other than special teams. I think one RB gets in so that in 2010 we have more than just Shaw with game experience.

Dont you think Turner can play safety/3rd CB.....thats the role I see him in immediately. He almost has to see the field immediately. If Vlad's past his injury, I can see him on the field next year too. But with a lineup of Warren, Cissoko, Brown, M. Williams....i see Turner backing up both the CB and S positions and seeing a lot of action.

....we're thin all around in the Dbackfield and not realy that strong at safety to begin with. Turner can play, imo, immediately. I see him as a safety right away out of need and since he has cover ability I can see matching up with the 3 WR from the other team. The actual position name, at that point, is meaningless....he should be the first DB off the bench, dont you think, in nickel and dime sets? Can we count on Williams and Brown as the starting S's? I just think the sky is the limit for Turner and wouldn't be surprised to see him play a little bit of everything back there out of need. Long term: Do you see him as a corner or safety for us?

Honestly, I have no idea what position he WILL end up at. I think he could be a great safety (free or strong), and I think he could be an above average corner. It just depends on what position is open, I guess... If Warren leaves after this year (a big if, I know), then I think Turner would be a corner for the rest of his college career. But if Warren sticks around next year, I have to think they'd put Turner at safety to replace Steve Brown.

for sure, given that because of injuries they missed about a year of reps in high school. So even if they are 100% healthy, they're probably a little raw because of the time they missed. but I am thinking the two OL, Lalota, Bell, Smith, Gallon, Gordon, Gordon, T. Jones and either Hawthorne or M. Jones.

With DRob redshirting, Nick Sheridan is your third string QB. NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. Think these things through before hypothesizing.
