Where Does Michigan Finish?

Submitted by raleighwood on
If everything is "chalk"....can Michigan finish the season at #2? All of this is based on Michigan winning. Penn State (#5) and Washington (#4) would both clearly fall behind Michigan if they lose. Assuming OSU beats Clemson by more than an FG (not likely....but possible), then Clemson falls behind Michigan, too. That leaves OSU vs Bama. I'd contend that if OSU loses by more than seven (likely), then they'd fall past Michigan leaving the Wolverines at #2. This factors in the fact that Michigan lost to OSU in double OT on the road (with other dubious elements). This season seems similar to 1985 to me (generational defense, losing close game at Iowa, Harbaugh....) and Michigan finished #2 then. I'm looking for a repeat. Thoughts?

i think a lot of people are selling Clemson way short.

They've been coasting much of the season.

When they are "on" (esp on offense) the offense looks nearly unstoppable.

I think they will roll OSU, and then it will be a title game rematch.

And here's the pick: Clemson beats Alabama by a hair to win it all.

Thus, Michigan ends up #3.

in these Playoff rankings..Its more of the same BCS BS..The fact that Penn St is ranked ahead of Michigan proves it..Michigans overall resume is clearly better..CLEARLY..3 top 10 wins...not top 25 but top 10...a non cong\f win vs a Top 10 Colorado vs a PSU non conf LOSS to Pitt..

Oh did I mention they beat them head t head 49-10?  so like in the past its all about what a room filled with old people think with all their biases and prejudices and the desire to be PC...

The people (well prob a large majority) want a playoff like every other dam division of college football HAS even High Schools..Its the only way to determine a TRUE Champion...

Finland?

Oh not that finnish.

Winning solves everything, ask me after the game, too many in play variables such as every other relevant game to the teams around us.

If we blast them, definitely in the top 4.

They may be dipshits and keep the top 4 in CFP top 4 just to justify their selection though.

the end of season AP top 4 didn't even match the CFP top 4 (order different last year, OSU was 5th in 2014).  The CFP is done for the year putting out rankings.  AP voters are independent and separate and can vote whatever they want. I can see an AP #3 if Michigan wins and PSU loses or even if PSU squeaks out a win.  Current poll only has PSU 3 points ahead of Michigan, FYI.

Last two years' Final AP polls (CFP in bold):

2015

  1. Alabama beat #1 Clemson after #3 MSU in CFP (up from 2)
  2. Clemson lost in CFP final to #2 Alabama after beating #4 Oklahoma (down from 1)
  3. Stanford after beating #6 Iowa in Rose Bowl (up from 5)
  4. OSU after beating #8 ND in Fiesta Bowl (up from 7)
  5. Oklahoma after losing to #1 Clemson in CFP (down from 4)
  6. MSU after being spanked by #2 Alabama in CFP (down from 3)
  7. TCU after beating #15 Oregon in Alamo Bowl (up from 11)
  8. Houston after beating #9 FSU in Peach Bowl (up from 14)
  9. Iowa after losing to #5 Stanford in Rose Bowl (down from 6)
  10. Ole Miss after beating #13 Oklahoma State in Sugar Bowl (up from 16)

2014

  1. OSU beat #3 Oregon after #1 Alabama in CFP (up from 5)
  2. Oregon lost in CFP final to #5 OSU after beating #2 FSU (up from 3)
  3. TCU after beating #9 Ole Miss in Peach Bowl (up from 6)
  4. Alabama after losing to #5 OSU in CFP (down from 1)
  5. (tie) MSU after beating #4 Baylor in Cotton Bowl (up from 7)
  1. (tie) FSU after losing to #3 Oregon in CFP (down from 2)
  1. Baylor after losing to #7 MSU in Cotton Bowl (down from 4)
  2. Ga. Tech after beating #8 Miss St. in Orange Bowl (up from 10)
  3. Georgia after beating #20 Louisville in Belk Bowl (up from 13)
  4. UCLA after beating #11 Kansas St. in Alamo Bowl (up from 14)

If the CFP #5 or #6 win, they've moved up to #3.  Otherwise, they've dropped to #7 or #9 in the AP poll.  Haven't seen both 5 and 6 win at the same time yet.
