Western Michigan's Alex Carder named to Manning award watch list

Okay, so it's kind of slow tonight and I figured I would strike up some somments on the board. I ran across an article which talked briefly of Alex Carder being named to the Manning Award watch list.

Western Michigan's QB Alex Carder was 1 of 31 QB's named to the Manning award watch list, which is awarded to the nation's top college football quarterback. Manning could very well be lethal with his arm this year, but Michigan has nearly a month to scheme for the passing attack Western will try to employ.

Do you feel we will see a lot more press coverage in Mattison's defense? The past few years our secondary always seemed to play 7-10 yards off the receivers. I know we wil blitz a lot more, and should be able to take advantage of a young Western O Line, but need to be tight on the receivers.

Of these 4 corners which 2 do you feel will be the most successful playing press coverage, and bumping the receivers off the line? Woolfolk, Floyd, Avery, Countess. I threw Countess in there, because I am not counting him out as a starter at some point early in the season.

I may be a little more nervous than most regarding the Western game, only because of Alex Carder. I still have nightmares of the presvious regime's pass defense.

in part because of Carder, but it seems like Western always has some solid returning talent, but they never seem to be able to put anything together. Bill Cubit can't handle the Big House.

Mattison really likes to pressure the qb, so there will be a lot more man coverage whether they press up or not im not sure. Im just extremely happy i don't have to see that wack zone 10 yards of the WR every down bullspit any more. Down the road i for sure see Countess being a do it all corner. Delonte Hollowell is another guy that really intrigues me. Something about him he just seems to have that swagger and confidence lets hope that carries to the College level. He should see a redshirt here but down the road again another guy who could be a key contributer. His lack of height and speed could result in him being a real physical corner which is always good to have on a football team. Go Blue!

I watched wmu a lot last yr, even attended the homecoming game.  I like wmu in general, but don't have much positive to say about their coaching.  imo, just bad.  Carder has some physical gifts, and serously seems taller than 6'2'', but he just doesn't make the throws when he needs to.  Throw in the playcalling, and you have a recipe for barely a challenge in the opening game.

Hiller was a gun slinger as some have mentioned, and had a lot more tools at WR, yet the coaches never could figure out how to use him in the way say Dan LeFevour at central.  You watch the Broncos and you see them do some things that work, and then they just abandon it.  Its just sad.

was a hyped because he had a dynamite freshman year. And if I remember correctly, he was throwing to Greg Jennings and Tony Scheffler. No offense to Hiller cause he had a solid career, but I could've had a dynamite year throwing to those two guys in the MAC...
