Week 13 Polls and Ratings - AP #12, Coaches #12

Submitted by Leaders And Best on November 17th, 2019 at 3:31 PM

Run down of the advanced stats after Week 12 and MSU win. As usual, FEI won't be out for a couple days so the F/+ (#15 before MSU) and FEI (#15 before MSU) are not updated at this time. Michigan made a slight jump in most of the advanced stats, but I doubt it will be reflected in the CFP rankings on Tuesday.

- Despite dropping out of the Top 25 polls after their loss to PSU, Indiana looks more formidable in the advanced stats and rose in almost all of them despite the loss. Most of the ratings have Indiana rated around #30, but they have risen as high as #20 in S&P+ this week. S&P+ has Indiana almost equal to Notre Dame.

- Ohio State looks like a Death Star. Hopefully, Harbaugh and his band of rebels can find the single massive design vulnerability that will cause its destruction in two weeks. One can dream.

Big ten country: “9-1 Minnesota is junk and Penn state is a paper tiger”

SEC country: “Auburn is great and so is Florida, also if Kentucky was 9-1 they would be great too”

Minimizing our conference opponents has a long term negative effect. Someday we will figure out why the SEC has the best ranking for 1 loss teams and 2 loss teams year in and year out. Its because they dont minimize each other. A piss poor misperception of Big Ten teams nationwide is fine with most fans in our footprint because we are playing checkers. They are playing chess and Bama and Florida are perfect examples. Has Florida beat a top ten team by 30+ points? Ah wait ND is a garbage team, a real paper tiger. Sound familiar.

I care a lot about rankings, bowl games, and record.  I think all of those things matter to recruiting, and even if they didn't, I enjoy them.

My happiness is not a step function.

Harbaugh-Brown-Gattis need to scheme out-of-their-minds for the OSU game. We can't out athlete them or out physical them like we do to other teams. We have to rely on the coaches for this victory.
