We’re scoring a ton of points this year, but did you know….
So I was just killing time before the game starts in about, erm, 48 hours or so, just looking over some stats from the past 2 years, and a couple of things stood out…
1. We could actually top our ‘08 point total this weekend. In ’08, we finished with just 243 points on offense. In 2010, we already have 207. If we put up 37 points on MSU, then we will have beaten our ’08 point total just halfway through the season.
2. At this point in ‘09, we had scored 170 points, compared to 207 so far this year.
3. In ’09, our offense put up a respectable point total of 354. For comparison, Lloyd’s teams actually scored that many points or FEWER in 6 different seasons, and two of those seasons had 13 games.
5. We’re on pace to score 496 points (over 12 games). Obviously that won’t happen, but just for comparison sake, again, our offense scored 354 last year. The Michigan record for points scored over 12 games is 446 (2003) most points we've scored over 12 games since the 1940s is 446 (2003).
Conclusion: this whole ‘dreadlocked-quarterback-running-the-zone-read’ thing is working.

You silly bastard... points don't win games, 5-star recruits do.

LBs and Safeties score even more points so they win even MORE games.
Yes, Odie, yes, gasp, pant, gasp....

Kevin Grady and Boubacar think you're cool.

How many 4*'s did we have that year?
Any JUCO transfers?

No, but I'm pretty sure that we had a shit-ton of walk-ons.

I tried plugging 1 shit-ton into several online converters but none of them recognized that form of weight. Can you convert that to good old pounds and ounces? Kilograms would also work.

I stand corrected. The list I was looking at only goes back to the 1940s. : /

Bacon says that some of those games were called early, as the opposing captains waved their white flags, so 660 minutes may actually be a high number.

is 644 (1902), and they did it with a game to spare.

Of course, that was when games were 70 minutes long (no quarters, just two 35-minute halves) and you had three downs to gain five yards.
The team I'm more focused on, from a historical standpoint, is the 1947 Mad Magicians.

They averaged 39.4 points per game. So far this year, we're averaging 41.4 points per game.
I know Bowling Green is a bit of an outlier, but I'm guessing they had 1 or 2 of those back in 1947 as well.

You say that we obviously won't keep scoring at the pace that we have been. I have to disagree with that. If we average 12 drives per game and score on half of them, that's 42 points per game. Some games are going to be against better defenses and others are going to be against defenses that look like BGSU. Everyone expects this season to be filled with shootouts, so I think we will just keep scoring as much as possible instead of giving up in the 4th quarter when we are up by 14.

That would be nice, but I think the Bowling Green game kinda throws the average. I just don't think we'll put up 60 on anyone in the Big Ten. Probably not 50 either. 40 a couple of times seems like a real possibility.

I think we can put up 35-49 on MSU.
We put up 28 on Iowa last year and I see no reason to think they can stop Denard considering the drive he had last year where he ran on pretty much every down. Plus, we have the game at home. That's probably worth a TD.
PSU is one of the games that I think we score less than what we need. Maybe 28 or so.
Illinois and Purdue? We should be able to score at will against them. It will be fun to watch too.
Wisconsin is the same thing with Iowa. We put up 24 last year. There's no reason to expect that we score at least 1-2 more times with homefield advantage and dilithium.
OSU is like PSU. Nevertheless, I think we can at least come damn close to that number even if we don't fully achieve it.

Glad to see the offense is outperforming the last couple of year's, but I wonder how the defense is doing compared to points and yards from previous year. I know it's not pretty, but maybe it's not as bad as we think (crosses fingers).
Regardless, scary good offense = fun games to watch, so we got that going for us.

I think we can really pile the pts on MSU. Problem is they might be able to do the same against us.

Think of how few possessions/plays these points are being scored in.
