WDFN says Kelly to ND

Submitted by umhero on
I was just listening to WDFN and Sean Baligian announced that Irisheyes.com was reporting that Brian Kelly would be named the new head coach at ND today. I went to Irisheyes.com and didn't see anything but it may be in their premium forum.

this trick of "actual" media outlets reporting things by saying "KELLY IN AT ND (according to internet)" so they get all the splash but don't have to take any blame is getting irritating.

My guess is this is just another one of the outlets piling on that IrishCentral report from yesterday. A few newspapers report this website is saying this, whether it's true or not, and then it snowballs.

Kelly has come to terms with a Cincy for a contract extension. Not signed but it "appears" Kelly is going to stay with Cincy. http://www.examiner.com/x-30967-Cincinnati-Bearcats-Examiner~y2009m12d2… More interesting is that the site mentions that Skip Holtz has been contacted and might interview. I hope Skip doesn't spit like his dad. Could hurt his chances during the interview. http://footballcoachscoop.com/Scoop.html

I wonder how credible that site is. They seems to say they have insider info into almost every coaching search. For ND they say: Sources tell us that the center of the search for Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick is with Skip Holtz (East Carolina Head Coach), Randy Edsall (UConn Head Coach) and Jim Harbaugh (Stanford Head Coach). My guess is not very credible.

The sad thing is, even the website doesn't claim that it's a done deal. The headline is practically a lie. The body of the article says "according to an insider, Kelly is the leading candidate" and it doesn't even claim inside info of an actual deal being done. It's a blatant ploy to get page hits and it has worked beautifully.
