Way OT - Visting Glacier National Park

I've always been very impressed with the experiences and advice of Mgo travelers so I hope I'm not too out of bounds asking for a little off season advice on traveling to Glacier National Park this summer.  For those that have been there, what suggestions do you have for where to stay, what to do and/or avoid, and what are the best hikes?

The Mgo wife is not able to go, so it will just be me and my two college age boys.  I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions.

Wishing everyone a happy 4th!

Oh man you're headed to my absolute favorite place in the entire world. The only "must do" hike is Avalanche Lake because it's equal parts easy and beautiful.

Ptarmigan Tunnel is my favorite hike in the park. I love to drive in from West Glacier and then do any number of hikes from the Many Glacier area, you really can't go wrong there.

The best camping trip I've ever done is at Prince William sound in Alaska. You drive about an hour from Anchorage, take a train to the sound. From there a boat took us out 14 miles to an island right next to glacier.

We kayaked around the glacier for a day. The sound/sight of huge chunks of ice falling into the sound was incredible. We towed one back to the camp and made drinks with 10,000 year old ice.

Then you spend next two days kayaking back to the home port. On the way we saw a lot of wild life and even grabbed some salmon barehanded in a river.

Most incredible outdoor experience I ever had.

Never been there but my grandfather helped build it and work on the roads when he was in CCC! So our family has always been proud of it! I'll have to go there one day!
