OT: U Nevada (Reno) is a really dull-looking campus in a somewhat (visible mountains, anyway) picturesque setting. Reno the town (off-strip) has its moments and seems like a fun place to live, especially if you're an outdoorsy type.

Most of what I know about Reno comes from Reno 911...However, I have spent a few days in the city, and it's (surprisingly) quite nice. If you're into micro-brews, it's definitely a great spot. Also, the location to Tahoe is pretty epic. As you note, it's a stellar spot if you're into the outdoors, which my wife and I are.

Agree ..... Reno is a great town.

I enjoyed Elko too.  That's a place that certainly is off the beaten path.  But I enjoyed spending a week there, tons of outdoor stuff (where you won't run into much company) in the Ruby Mountains and high desert.  Also good Basque food --- there's a community there.

I can't believe I just spent a paragraph talking about Elko, Nevada on a Mgoblog forum, ha ha.
