Because people here love to post content from "sources" who have zero history of providing accurate inside information, whether it is from random twitter accounts or pseudo-insiders who constantly throw shit at the wall and hope it sticks or generates clicks (the real goal).

This Bleacher Report editor is not a valid source, however he is just relaying info from Ian Rapoport who is a legit insider.

I was driving to Chattanooga this morning and then back to Atlanta this evening, so “living under a rock” is close enough to the fact.

I was going to edit this after finding out about Sarkisian (if that doesn’t reek of a placeholder until they sign someone they actually want I don’t know what does), but I guess I’ll leave it and take my lumps.

If that’s true and he ends up being successful that’s going to blow up a lot of narratives on this blog.

Edit: would love to see him out of Columbus. Will they remain a factory without him being there? Probably but will be interesting to find out.

Day's already turned down a few NFL coordinator offers in the last couple of years.  He's made the statement that - if his choice and possible - would like to stay in one place for a long while due to having young kids in school- he doesn't want to keep moving them around.  I really don't see Day going to a dumpster fire like the Jets or Jax.  And why would he when he's building an absolute monster in Columbus. His 2021 class is right there with Alabama in Composite average / player - both will surpass Urban's 2017 94.59 record in the end. They'll finish #2 to Alabama because of only being able to take 22 or 23 while Alabama has room for 27 or 28 recruits.  And Day's 2022 class could very well end up being the highest rated ever.  Why would he want to leave all of this for the Jets or Jax ? Maybe in a few years I could see it.

I know Urban said several guys that are currently on OSU’s staff are keys to his success. If he takes them away from osu, he might be removing some of the foundation of their program. This could cause osu to fall from the elite. This is very good news. Plus he’s going to Jacksonville, where he will certainly fail and be out of coaching in the next few years.

If Day wanted to go to the NFL he would be there right now.  He has it rolling at OSU with a bright future ahead of him.  Have you seen their recruiting in 2021 and 2022?  I doubt he leaves for the uncertainty of the NFL with Quinn Ewers and all those receivers in the pipeline.

After a decade at OSU and a few NCs I might expect him to bolt.

Quinn Ewers for 3-4 years at OSU while having to recruit and maintain an extremely difficult level of success in college?

or

Trevor Lawrence for 15-20 years at Jacksonville while being able to focus on team building and scheme while also probably getting a decent pay raise and higher nfl profile. Not sure it would be as clear cut a decision as you make it.

You think a coach—any coach—can survive 15 years at Jacksonville?

Also, I’m skeptical of Trevor Lawrence. Not because of his play or anything, but because almost every year there is a QB everyone thinks is surefire.

Look at the top QBs in the league. Alex Smith was selected before Aaron Rodgers, Michael Vick before Drew Brees, Eli Manning before Ben Roethlesberger. Mahomes was picked #10, well after Trubisky. We all know the Brady story.

Taking an NFL job is a huge risk if you’re the coach of OSU. The NFL has parity, so you need to be really good and also have a bit of luck. With OSU, you only play teams with the same advantages you have when you get to the playoffs.

The NFL is a tough business.  The pay isn't much better than elite programs in college and he is has so much equity right now at OSU he will never get fired.

You talk about recruiting like it is a bad thing.  In the NFL talent gets equally distributed with the draft and salary cap.  At OSU Day is crushing it recruiting.  He basically gets to pick his own roster, unlike having a GM in the NFL.

Successful coaches seem to have a lot more longevity in CFB.  Even JH is looking at a 6 year extension after 6 years of mediocrity at 8 mil per.

Having said that you are correct that coming in with Trevor Lawrence is about as sweet a gig as you can get.  Expectations should be tempered and a new coach could demand a 5-6 year contract.

Supposedly Day was offered an NFL coordinator position after one year at OSU.  He stayed.  I doubt he bolts for the NFL until he has made his mark (meaning national championships).

There are only 32 jobs at the highest level.

Jags have successfully tanked for Trevor, they also have $81 million in cap space (probably more pending a few departures). They also have the youngest team in the league. Khan family ownership is not considered problematic.

It's a situation where, with the right GM, a coach could have a lot of success and relatively quickly with the cap space. Given the team does not currently have a GM it could enable a coach like Meyer or potentially Day to exercise a lot more player personnel control than might be possible elsewhere via contract negotiation.

It has been reported that Day was offered the Titans offensive coordinator position after 1 year at OSU as a coordinator.  He previously was on staff there.

I don't doubt he will jump to the NFL at some point, seems like the NFL likes young offensive minds like McVay and Stefanski.  But the way he is  loading up on recruiting classes I doubt he leaves now.

Hopefully he takes some people from the current OSU staff. May slow them down a little. I also believe Urban Liar is still very involved in the program at OSU including breaking down film and game planning.
