Update: USC investigation results not expected this week

Submitted by noshesnot on

Earlier this week there were some rumblings that USC could have/may have been notified of violations and the results of the NCAA investigation.  According to ESPN, USC has not been notified of any outcome from the NCAA investigation, and therefore no announcement is expected today.  A school requires 48 hours notice before any violations are made public.

Slightly off topic, but I didn't realize Percy Romeo Miller (aka Lil' Romeo) was on the USC basketball team...  I think I've been living under a rock.

I heard that Demar Derozan phoned the USC coaches and said me and Lil Romeo are ready to commit, and Demar wasn't going to SC without lil. So Tim Floyd made it happen I guess.

Who saw this coming?

*raises hand*

How long has this process been going on now?  I will believe that there are results when I actually hear/see them.

They needed more time to figure out a way to keep USC from vacating the wins and Bush's Heisman Trophy.  The NCAA will collectively lose their shit if Michigan practices a bit too much, but if USC pays their players, meh.

incompetent about the NCAA taking its time to issue its ruling? There are several good reasons for it, a lot of them outlined here in the LA Times.  Here's a money quote:

... what is most time-consuming are the logistics.

With committee members spread across the United States, getting everyone on a 10-member committee to sign off on all the language contained in what is surely a weighty document is a daunting challenge.

After an initial draft is prepared, the committee convenes by conference calls to review and make changes.

"It's literally done line by line," Yeager said.

And by people who have full-time jobs beyond the work they do as members of the committee.

"It's not like they're guys sitting in the office in Indianapolis doing this thing," Yeager said. "It's not just a matter of, 'Let's do it this Wednesday.'"

So Wednesday they NCAA supposedly said they delivered the findings to USC, and today USC says "What package? We don't see no steeenkeeng package ..."

Classic ...

I know I should be minding my own Michigan business, but I really wish this USC thing was over with.

Just to name a couple of reasons, corrupt because the NCAA requires Final Four host cities to deliver swag to NCAA bigwig hotel rooms during the tournament (as detailed in a Kansas City Star article over ten years ago) and incompetent in that it designates the rules violations—whether singly or in aggregate—that UM is accused of as "major," giving the wider world the impression that our violations are of the same general seriousness as academic fraud scandals at other schools.

This whole thing is the NCAA version of the O.J. murder trial.  I hope not, but I think it's going to be extremely disappointing.
