Update: Offensive Coaching Staff Overhaul

Submitted by MichiganSports3 on

Reading more and more that Dan Enos and Greg Roman will likely be the newest additions to the Michigan coaching staff, replacing Drevno, Pep, and Frey (all of which rumored to have accepted jobs elsewhere). This basically confirms what our "insider" MGoBlog accounts have been posting throughout the day with regards to the coaching changes. In bringing in Greg Roman, it appears that Harbaugh is planning on switching to the pistol offense that he ran with Colin Kaepernick in SF. He's got the QB's for it in Patterson, McCaffrey, and Milton, as well as athletic WR's in DPJ, Black, and Collins. Let's hope it revitalizes the offense for next season.

Note* Nothing is confirmed but I highly doubt that every UM Insider who's been tracking these moves is wrong

Was a disaster. I hope they don't ever try having two different OL coaches on staff again.

I'd like to see more pistol in the offense. I know they haven't had a ton of really athletic QBs since Harbaugh has been there, but to me it's just a tremendous way to add some zone read to the offense while still maintaining a physical offense, and it lets you do all the same one back stuff you'd do from under center with the running back at the same depth.

A separate WR and RB coach to be hired is something I've read. I think this would be a very smart move.

I read that as well. I was honestly shocked that we did not have a WR coach for this year. Now it is not a huge surprise why our receivers struggled getting open this year. Yes experience plays a role, but so does technique. As for RB coach, we'll see who Harbaugh has in mind. Most likely, Jay is moving back to TE coach.

There is no way in hell that an offensive line can have so
Many issues with communicating stunts and simple blitzes . Big mike is the worst I have ever seen . Even MAC team can play at Alabama and Get wide receivers running good routes and getting open . We can’t get by a jam , we run rounded routes , and drop so many passes !

Call me crazy, but in an ideal world I'd like to see Drevno demoted to OL, not fired. I don't think it will happen, but it could. He's been very successful coaching linemen in the past and the run-blocking from the guards (who he coached) improved dramatically as the year went on. There's no guarantee that a replacement would be an upgrade by any means.

I mean who are they going to hire? Having him relieved of his duties calling plays takes a lot of weight off of his shoulders and he can have a lot more time working with the line. I like this move cause it opens up the position of OC and he is still allowed to be a solid positional coach. Fire Pep, bring in a new Non-Coaching tree OC and 2 Elite RB & WR coaches, that would be the most ideal way to go. Also, move Jay back to TE coach where is has been really successful.
