U-M Hockey @ WI Sat Open Thread
OK, that happened. U-M hadn't lost a Fri game since 11/30 @ FYS. Now they have to rebound and play better. 3 pts still gets ahead of MN in the standings. Not surprisingly, Lavigne will start in net.

Let's Go Blue! Grill the cheeseheads!
And stay out of the damn box!
One on five goal....smh.
That was a ball don't lie moment.
Puck don’t lie.
Our goaltending is so bad that we gave up two soft OT winners in one OT period. 4 bad goals today. Ugh.
I have to say the goaltending is...not good.
Frustrating.
This team isn’t going anywhere with our goalies.
That losing goal is on the 3 defenders being nothing but spectators in front of the goal
If it was too many men, why weren’t we on the power play?
That is one hell of a question.
I guess because they didn't call it.
They waived off the first goal for too many men on the ice.
this team needs a decent goalie so bad
Needs leadership, too.
Captains have been too quiet all season long.
Scoring goals was a problem and remains a problem too.
We have a ton of freshmen coming in next year so hopefully as more of the late Red guys leave things will change.
Make the saves with your body, not your glove.
How, um... how is goaltending recruiting looking for the immediate future??
Per Brian: " Michigan does not have a goalie committed in any class."
Mann is just a freshman. Hope he has big improvement.
Mel has his work cut out for him.
Boy you wonder what Red and Mel look for when recruiting goalies???
We had Dylan St. Cyr committed but he left for ND.
As they were signing off, the announcer twice said, "Michigan will be a tough out in the playoffs if they can get some quality goaltending."
Where are they going to find that in 6 days before they faceoff at Minnesota?
My guess is they’ll mail it in as they did the last 2 nights
I don't think they're just mailing it in. They just aren't any good. Mgoblog analyzed this earlier this week. Outside of Hughes, who is about to be driven to the airport, this team has no stars. Not a single other star.
You’re probably right about it but there are moments they get caught standing around and not hustling which makes you a spectator and therefore should be paying admission!
Well, right. I'd have played in the NBA if I'd been a foot taller/considerably more athletic.
It's acquiring those "if" traits that trips you up.
Mel is 20-20-8 in the B1G in 2 seasons.
19-29-8 in the WCHA at Tech.
...and??
How Bad Is It, Johnny?
This Wolverines team hasn’t won more than two games in a row this season, and they’ve won two consecutive games only twice – against St. Lawrence which is 5-27-2 and 59th, next-to-last in the PairWise rankings (October 26 and 27) and Michigan State which finished with the worst overall record among all Big Ten teams (February 8 and 9).
The 50-Year Anniversary Curse for NCAA Men's Hockey Powers
Based on the current PairWise rankings that usually determine the 16-team NCAA men’s ice hockey tournament field, North Dakota (20), Minnesota (20), Michigan (24), Boston University (24), Wisconsin (26), Michigan State (27), Maine (28) and Boston College (36) all could be missing from this year's tournament, if none of them win their conference tournament. The last time when none of those teams were in the tournament was 1969 when Denver, Harvard, Cornell and Michigan Tech were the only teams in the tournament. LINK
