The Fig Things got to sit last weekend and chew on getting swept by WI. Now they come to Yost, where hopefully they will be punished all the periods and leave winless.

If you didn't listen to the Hockeycast (why the hell not?), they talked about OT.

NCAA: Mandated 3-on-3 five-min period. OT win is a full 3-pt NCAA win, loser gets 0. If still tied, both teams get an NCAA point. After that NCAA doesn't care.

Big Ten fuckery: If tied in regulation, each team gets a BT point, OT winner gets another BT point (or for shootout win, I suppose). So an OT win is only 2 BT pts. WTF, BT?!?!

Other games: no other BT teams playing tonight. Check back tomorrow.

Kind of.  The NCAA doesn't really give "points."

* That Michigan overtime win counts as a win in their record, so Michigan is 4-0-0.

* It counts as .55 win and .45 loss in the RPI calculation, so their RPI record is 3.55-0.45, for a .888 RPI "winning percentage."

* It counts as 2 points for Michigan and 1 for Wisconsin in the Big Ten standings, so Michigan has 5 points.

The Big Ten is using the IIHF rules, where overtime & shootout winners split the points with the loser, and you need to win in regulation to get all of the points.  Not sure why they went to IIHF rules, but it seems like a lot of the recent NCAA rule changes also are moving toward IIHF rules and away from NHL rules.

Game preview in the diaries if you haven't seen.

Lineup was on twitter but I can't find it now. Van Wyhe still injured so Mogan I think was centering that line.

EP was listed at the top of the goalie lineup, not that it means anything.

My screen is a blur of pixels. Classic BTN+ quality. If BTN+ is just a webcast of the Michigan feed...why exactly are we paying $10/mo for BTN do nothing but relay a feed?

ND doing an annoying job so far of stifling the offense so far. More or less what youd expect playing a Jeff Jackson team. Hopefully we find our groove here soon

Still crazy to me Lake Superior State won some national titles relatively recently. Like how are you recruiting guys to not just Sault Ste Marie but also little LSSU?

Those schools recruit guys who exhaust their juniors eligibility then become 20-21 year old freshmen. Then they’re 24 year old seniors playing against 18-19 year olds at most “top schools.”

Thats essentially the recipe for success at all smaller schools. Get a couple of those late bloomers that really make a jump and That’s how you get a Minnesota State-Mankato or a Quinnipiac atop the rankings a few years in a row competing with powerhouses.

Not everybody has the ability to go to the NTDP or pickup the top USHL guys. So they essentially beat you by having older and more experienced players.
