U-M Hockey vs PSU - Friday Open Thread

Submitted by I Bleed Maize N Blue on January 14th, 2022 at 6:28 PM

Our #4 icers host cellar-dwelling PSU. Since we weren't playing in conference last weekend, MN (25 pts) is now 2pts ahead of us in 1st, OSU is tied with us, and ND lurks just behind at 22 pts. We need all the points this weekend.

What's the arithmetic that makes 7-1-0 and 5-0-1 precisely equivalent records and both equal to 0.875?

These are the records (respectively) for MSU-Mankato and Michigan versus "common opponents" and this "0.875" tie is used by pairwise to cause a draw (RPI goes to MSU; H2H goes to M; and RPI is the tiebreaker). It's fine, I suppose, because it's still early in the season, but it's also irksomely opaque.

Huge kill on our major, then two PP goals 48sec apart on their major, with 3:18 of PP left to start the 2nd.

Other games: ND 1, OSU 1, mid 2nd. MSU 0, WI 0, early 1st. AK 1, MN 2, late 2nd.

i've said this before, but thank you very much for all your posting on these hockey games.  the goal highlights are an added bonus to that.  for many of us we wouldn't/couldn't follow the games and it is a great convenience.   it is particularly nice since we have such a loaded team, and the overall interest in the games is higher.

Shots: U-M 14, PSU 11, tot 23, 16.

Too bad intermission gave PSU PK a chance to regroup. We could have really bombed them if the PP was all at the end of the 1st.

Other games: ND 1, OSU 1, mid 3rd. MSU 1, WI 3, mid 1st. AK 1, MN 3, late 3rd.
