Tyler Trent: A Moment of Joy for a terminally ill Purdue fan

Submitted by crg on October 21st, 2018 at 4:21 AM

I did not watch the Purdue-OSU game and just happened to see the score a short while ago.  Found out about this young man when I looked into the game details - just heartbreaking.  So glad that he was able to have a moment of happiness so near the end of a short life.  God Bless him and his loved ones.

Great stuff and thanks for sharing with the board. This game meant so much to Tyler, and we could not be happier with the joy it brought to him today!  Tyler’s dad is our landscape architect and is a friend of ours from church. This family has suffered so much for so long, but Tyler continues to be a ray of light in a dark place.  He has a deep conviction that when his life ends, he will be with his Lord - and the grace with which he has suffered is a powerful testimony to the hope that comes from faith in Jesus.

Thank you for adding some personal perspective to this story.  I'm not sure I can even fathom what that family is going through (maybe I just don't want to try - still tearing up thinking about that story), but I hope that this win and maybe a few more can give them some collective happiness to remember.

fighting and barely able to breath, gets out of the hospital to see an epic beat down of ohio by his team.  heard the interview - very intelligent, well-spoken young man.  God bless him in this struggle, and its beyond cool that he got to have that night, that win, that recognition.

Seconded, I can tell you 100% certainty that the enthusiasm that came through and his love for Purdue is completely authentic and in line with how he’s lived his life and cancer treatment. I happened to check out the game and was extremely happy with the outcome, but then the announcers cut to him on the sideline? Man, I almost drove to W. Lafeyette just to join the party.

I caught the second half and caught an interview of him toward the end of the game. Glad he was able to.be there for that game, and loved seeing a huge sign in the stands in support of him. As a parent, I cannot even begin to think of what his parents, his family, and Tyler himself is going through. Love hearing how Purdue has embraced him, and how he has been a role model for the team. Will for sure keep him, his family and friends in my thoughts and prayers as he continues his fight.

Maybe the best thing that happened in college football all day.  It was great that the Buckeyes were so accommodating and let Purdue hang 49 on them for the easy win.

They talked to Tyler after the game and, as it had been with the pieces of the story peppered throughout the broadcast, it felt like someone was cutting onions. Very awesome that he got to see his team eviscerate Ohio State as he had wanted to see.

Amen...you can see how the cancer has taken it's toll on his body, but even with this terminal illness you look into his face you see peace, serenity. It was angelic.

May the Lord bless him and his family, as well as answer the prayers people have spoken to our Father on Tylers' behalf.

I watched the Tyler Trent segment on Game Day. It was heartwrenching. I haven't been so moved by a story like his, even the two elementary school aged kids that both succumbed to Pediatric Cancer at my daughters school over the last two years. It's not fair! Godspeed Tyler. I for one will never forget your fight. People like you and Larry Prout are inspiring.

God Bless Tyler!  I worked for at least 12 years with kids 5 years in Pediatrics it almost brought me to tears just to see him speak with such strength.  Cancer is painful, for all families involved.  Boiler up for Tyler!

Yeah, I was delirious with happiness then turned on the Purdue game and was crying like a baby at the end.  God almighty I can't imagine going through what he is going through or what his parents are going through.  And the scene in the locker room at the end just turned on the water works.  Sports can be something special at times.

I watched them interview him at the end.  Kid is a champ as far as I'm concerned.  He got to see something beautiful, though.

And as a side note-kid sounds pretty intelligent about football too!
