Two more M women's rowing alums qualify for Rio Olympics

Submitted by James Burrill Angell on
M Women's rowing alum Ellen Tomek ('06) had previously punched her ticket to Rio for the women's double sculls and now two other Michigan rowers have qualified for Team USA as well. University of Michigan rowing alumnus Felice Mueller ('12) will represent the United States at the 2016 Olympics after winning a gold medal in the women's pair at the World Rowing Cup II on Sunday May 29 in Lucerne, Switzerland. Now Amanda Elmore ('14) was named to the USA's Women's 8+ roster. Good to have more Wolverines to root for this summer.

"I wouldn't sleep on it just sayin..." Is there something wrong with it? Maybe it's covered with Zika. I wouldn't sleep on a jersey covered in Zika either. Might explain why it's "sick".

that they just won the "Dysentery Lottery," but I am happy they get to follow their dream!

The OIC should have moved the outdoor water events to another country, if not the whole olympics.

Any berths on the Olympic team are impressive, but I've always found the small boats extra impressive. Maybe because there is no lightweight 8 in the Olympics and I have a sense as a distant observer how intense the men's lightweight competition is. On the women's side it is likely even more intense with the proliferation of collegiate women's teams.

Tl;dr: Awesome accomplishment to all!

Best of luck to them, and big congratulations to them on getting to represent their country as one of our elite athletes.

I commend their bravery as well. These Olympics could turn into an unmitigated disaster with the Zika and overall safety issues.

Have really become national powerhouses..........both the men and women.

It's somewhat surprising given the practice facilities........the Huron River is no comparison to the larger rivers near the traditional powerhouse teams.

I used to row on the Detroit River. Its not like you're swimming in it (leave that concern for the Open Water racers, of which one is a Michigan Alum). I just wouldn't jump in after we won a race. Biggest concern I'd have is smashing your boat into junk or some kind of garbage getting caught on your skeg and losing hydrodynamics of the boat.
