Transfer portal - are we targeting anyone?

Curious if we are targeting any of the 280+ players already in the portal. I doubt we'll be as active in the portal as some other teams, but imagine we could use a few experienced players. Thinking a Mike Danna type on the DL, given that we expect to lose both DEs.

I'm sure some of you are up to speed on this - would love to hear what moves, if any, you expect us to make. Especially if you learned about it via CounterStrike.

A thread down below indicates they’re hosting a RB and a Center (a Rimington finalist) this weekend.

I’d agree on the need for at least a situational pass rusher, especially if Ojabo is likely gone. There are a couple of end/LB types but no obvious sure things on the level of Danna. Maybe could grab a high ceiling type with plenty of eligibility or a short term guy who’ll top out at 7-8 sacks

We're gonna be a little short on "thunder" next year with HH almost certainly leaving; I think a guy in the burly downhill mold with some blocking upside would be a welcome add.

Corum as your general purpose guy and Edwards used mostly for his outside speed and catching ability... that's still plenty of snaps to go around.

Charbonnet made a good move to UCLA - he's a good player and in a world without Corum we'd be happy to have him, but as is he just doesn't bring anything that Corum doesn't do better.

Michigan has to careful. The team cannot afford to have anyone ejected and forced to sit out any part of the Orange Bowl.

Shit, wrong kind of targeting. Carry on with the recruiting speculation.

Both of these guys are visiting this weekend, and it sounds like UM has a good shot with both:

DeaMonte "Chip" Trayanum- RB from Arizona State. A former 4* from Akron, Ohio with nearly 700 yards and 10 TD at a 5.4 YPC clip in two years with ASU.  A power back who should have three years of eligibility.

Olusegun "Victor" Oluwatimi - C from Virginia. Would be a Grad transfer with 1 year of Eligibility left. He was a Rimington Trophy finalist as best C in the nation this year

I hope we never have to resort to the portal being the end all of adding talent to the roster like Tucker is doing. I truly believe there are already a lot of coaches using Tuckers propensity to go overboard on portal guys for negative recruiting as he appears as a coach who is less interested in coaching his own guys up than grabbing guys to replace them off the portal.

He has 3 of the top 25 portaled already signed and a favorite for 4 of the top 28.

Nothing wrong with it - he is getting 4 potential starters out of 22.  The entire LB group next year aside from 1 player will be portaled players.

I will be curious how this affects HS recruiting in a few years as it's pretty much perform in 18 months or gone.  Works for Saban.  MSU is not Bama.
