Ticket watch?

Submitted by MGoFoam on June 21st, 2021 at 5:42 PM

When should I start looking at the secondary market for good seats for non-conference games? A buddy of mine is a Northern Illinois grad. Should I get tickets now or wait until a few weeks before the game?

I give myself roughly even odds on being negged to Bolivia for asking this.

They made a deal with Ticketmaster to make all tickets digital and control them through some app that changes the barcodes every few minutes. By controlling the secondary market they can manipulate the prices and add a cut for themselves. So whereas before tickets could bottom out but the stands would be fuller, you're going to see a lot more tickets unsold because there's a minimum price you can transfer them.

Yup.   The NBA & NFL went full digital a few years ago and that's exactly what happened.   They decided what the floor pricing would be and wouldnt allow any tickets to be sold under that floor.  Even if demand doesnt exist at the floor price which creates empty seats.

Sort of related to this topic I got my ticket packet invitation today.  I can buy up to EIGHT OSU or Washington tickets if I agree to go to two of the lesser games.   The fact that they can sell that many seats in a row right now does not bode well for ticket sales IMO.

Purchase on game day AND outside of AA.  You could/will have a helluva time trying to get tickets on your phone if you wait til you arrive.  Done it….twice!!  Too stressful.

If you like to plan, you can usually find face-ish value tickets right now. If you want the best deal, as close to game time as possible (at least for the crappy games). You'll be able to find tickets to the Northern Illinois game for super cheap online on the day of the day of the game or the day before the game.

Should be lots of tickets available for every game. I've heard (but haven't confirmed) that the ticket office is allowing people to skip purchasing tickets this season if they ask, in exchange for a nominal fee to hold the seats until next year. Anecdotally, there seem to be a lot of people exercising that option (older people, those with kids who aren't vaccinated yet, those who just aren't ready for 100K crowd, etc.).

Just need two tickets?  I have two season tickets in Sec 4--cushions, on the aisle, about midway up.  I won't be going to that game, so if you only need two I'm happy to give you mine (free of charge). I should be receiving physical tix in early August, since I selected that option (last year of that--I think they go all digital next year).
