Thursday night football open thread

I'm headed out to the USF/Cincy game. It is almost a sellout, which is extremely rare down here, and should be a great game. I was able to get a ticket inside the forty for $35 from ticketmaster; I only mention this because I remember how difficult and expensive it is to get those kind of tix at the Big House. Cincy has beaten USF three times in a row, and USF won't be taking them lightly. In addition, USF's DC, Joe Tresey, was fired last year by Cincy coach Brian Kelly. This is reminiscent of ND having first Greg Mattison and now Corwin Brown on their staff to help them against UM, or Jon Gruden's dismantling of Oakland in the Super Bowl; there is a lot of potential for the game to be affected by inside info. In addition, a Cincy WR insulted Tresey this week, saying his coaches are "licking their chops" to face Tresey. For UM fans, there is ex-UM recruit BJ Daniels, who could have really helped at UM last year, leading USF and really not skipping a beat after replacing injured Matt Grothe. This game has a little something for everyone, and should be an entertaining way for football fans to spend Thursday night.

I haven't seen one run exactly like that, with a blocker through the middle. Maybe I haven't been watching closely enough. Seems to me that most all of Michigan's QB runs come on reads, when Tate is in. Very few designed QB runs, which is what that was.

has got to learn to settle for 5-6 yard completions, he just waits out the long ball and then ends up scrambling every play and whipping it in the general direction of a Bull. Take a note from Peyton Manning and be happy with short but important completions.

2.5 - Over/under on sure fire dropped interceptions. He already has two drops after they fluttered softly into gloved hands. I say he drops one more. Edit: in addition to the two dropped interceptions, he has three personal fouls. Go Bulls!

Watching this game as a USF fan was a lot like watching UM against Iowa, but without the comeback. They had a young QB who finally played like a young QB, and made too many mistakes to expect to beat a top twenty team. They gave away two TD's, and dropped three balls that should have been picks. USF should have been wearing Santa Claus uniforms. For those who think that Cincy could beat OSU: no. They are reasonably talented, but not really good enough to compete with the OSU's of the world. They are a lot like USF in a way, though; until they start getting a lot of recruits who were considering elite programs, they will continue to be a big fish in a small pond. There is really a lack of playmakers on offense on both teams. The game was quite entertaining until the pass interference penalty in the end zone, though.
