NMSU @ Minnesota will be interesting ............. from the POV that Jerry Kill (now coaching NMSU) and PJ Fleck legitimately hate each other these days.  Kill is not a fan of what Fleck has done culturally since taking over the Gopher program, and views it as disrespectful of him.

It's not inconceivable that Fleck runs up the score and/or those two get in some sort of fight post-game.

10 minutes in to the WVU-Pitt game and I am annoyed by how many commercial breaks there are (I think I am on number 3). Nevertheless, I am glad football is back.

There are a lot of knowledgeable football fans here.  I have a quick question.

What Big 12 team has been known for its defense - consistently solid D - from one year to the next?

I’m asking because a B1G team brought in a new DC from a Big 12 school - and, I wonder if any team in the conference will be able to score on them.   Thanks…

As said above, Baylor has had good defense and that's because their head coach is arguably a top 3 defensive mind in college football.  Not too long ago it seemed about 80% of Michigan fans wanted Matt Campbell as head coach because of their defense.  Time will tell what Brett Venebles can do with Oklahoma.  But consistently year in and year out hasn't happened since the mid 00's?  Texas was damn good on defense there for a minute.  Other than that nothing is coming to mind.

To your point about a certain B1G defensive coach, I sometimes wonder if the sudden success of his defense last year was predicated not only on how good (read exeprienced) they became but also how much offenses in the big 12 have regressed from where they were just a few years ago.

This. If he'd even managed to run just a little clock on some of those mid-4Q possessions, they could have won the game. I get that he has his identity, but you get the pick-six, force a punt, and then.... run six plays for four yards and only burn 1:37. IN SIX PLAYS!!!! (I know there was a PSU PI in there, but that was for a FIRST DOWN. Burn. Some. Clock.)

If WVU's receivers could hold onto the ball they'd be up even more vs. Pitt.

I know Narduzzi didn't like the Whipple offense but the version he's got running now doesn't look too hot and their defense still struggles with passing.

Purdue is doing a lot tonight with low recruiting. I wonder how the transfer portal is doing for the this team?

Apart from that the coaching is excellent

PSU -Purdue has been an interesting game.  Neither team looks super hot but they're figuring themselves out.

I will say that I just don't see how PSU is going to be demonstrably better than they have been the past couple of years.

Right? The Purdue player was barely moving. If the PSU player wanted to not go helmet-to-helmet he absolutely could have.  The crew are absolutely wrong.

"He was going for the ball." Interesting. So do plenty of other players. And yet they somehow manage to do it without intentionally going for head-to-head contact.
