Fire up Chips!

NMSU @ Minnesota will be interesting ............. from the POV that Jerry Kill (now coaching NMSU) and PJ Fleck legitimately hate each other these days. Kill is not a fan of what Fleck has done culturally since taking over the Gopher program, and views it as disrespectful of him.
It's not inconceivable that Fleck runs up the score and/or those two get in some sort of fight post-game.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:25 PM ^
I know Kill had health problems but he was a pretty good coach for Minnesota never understood why they seemingly forced him out…. PJ fleck is the same as frames lots of bru haha and no little substance.

Didn’t he retire because he was having seizures?
September 1st, 2022 at 9:07 PM ^
yeah, this is correct - from what I could tell, they didn't want to lose him like they did
September 2nd, 2022 at 12:17 AM ^
He and seizures because of our goal line stand.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:40 PM ^
ehhh fleck will be in public so hell be ok. he does most of his douchery in private, unlike Urbs, who sticks his fingers in womens asses in the middle of a packed bar
September 1st, 2022 at 7:15 PM ^
FYI Devin Gardner is calling the Fresno State game.
September 1st, 2022 at 7:16 PM ^
PSU-Purdue and CMU-OSU in 4K tonight for those interested.
I know there were some concerns that there would be no games 4K this season.
September 1st, 2022 at 7:19 PM ^
Let's Go WVU!
September 1st, 2022 at 7:20 PM ^
I hope Purdue Gives PSU all they can handle...
September 1st, 2022 at 7:24 PM ^
Agree. But with the game being on Fox, with all the commercials, it won't be over until around 1:00 a.m.
September 1st, 2022 at 7:29 PM ^
Historian, it sounds like you’re expecting a fast game in West Lafayette.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:20 PM ^
Good thing I'm in CST
September 1st, 2022 at 7:21 PM ^
10 minutes in to the WVU-Pitt game and I am annoyed by how many commercial breaks there are (I think I am on number 3). Nevertheless, I am glad football is back.
September 2nd, 2022 at 7:38 AM ^
Commercials where out of control last night. I was flipping between three games and all of them had over 3:00 of commercials at the same time. I get some of this is just timing, but man it is almost unwatchable.

Okie St showing off that sterling point-a-minute Big 12 defense.
September 1st, 2022 at 7:37 PM ^
There are a lot of knowledgeable football fans here. I have a quick question.
What Big 12 team has been known for its defense - consistently solid D - from one year to the next?
I’m asking because a B1G team brought in a new DC from a Big 12 school - and, I wonder if any team in the conference will be able to score on them. Thanks…
September 1st, 2022 at 8:27 PM ^
Baylor has had a pretty good defense the last 2 years and I assume will have a good one again. Their head coach was the former Wisconsin DC.
September 1st, 2022 at 11:39 PM ^
As said above, Baylor has had good defense and that's because their head coach is arguably a top 3 defensive mind in college football. Not too long ago it seemed about 80% of Michigan fans wanted Matt Campbell as head coach because of their defense. Time will tell what Brett Venebles can do with Oklahoma. But consistently year in and year out hasn't happened since the mid 00's? Texas was damn good on defense there for a minute. Other than that nothing is coming to mind.
To your point about a certain B1G defensive coach, I sometimes wonder if the sudden success of his defense last year was predicated not only on how good (read exeprienced) they became but also how much offenses in the big 12 have regressed from where they were just a few years ago.

Pitt being ranked is another example of why preseason rankings are useless.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:08 PM ^
It’s the same reason Notre Dame is ranked #5. They’re clearly over ranked but it makes that matchup with the Buckeyes more appetizing to have a “top 5” matchup.
September 1st, 2022 at 7:54 PM ^
Milton might actually look good against this Ball St team if he gets in there.
September 1st, 2022 at 9:56 PM ^
“Might”
September 1st, 2022 at 8:01 PM ^
Choo choo! Let’s go Boilers!
September 1st, 2022 at 8:11 PM ^
I'm already liking what I'm seeing from Purdue. Brohm is a great head coach
September 1st, 2022 at 8:21 PM ^
Their defense has been overall solid so far.
Edit: This comment did not age well.
September 1st, 2022 at 11:41 PM ^
Had no idea Ron English was their DC.
September 2nd, 2022 at 7:19 AM ^
Brohm did great until it was time to ice the game.
September 2nd, 2022 at 9:52 AM ^
This. If he'd even managed to run just a little clock on some of those mid-4Q possessions, they could have won the game. I get that he has his identity, but you get the pick-six, force a punt, and then.... run six plays for four yards and only burn 1:37. IN SIX PLAYS!!!! (I know there was a PSU PI in there, but that was for a FIRST DOWN. Burn. Some. Clock.)
September 1st, 2022 at 8:12 PM ^
If WVU's receivers could hold onto the ball they'd be up even more vs. Pitt.
I know Narduzzi didn't like the Whipple offense but the version he's got running now doesn't look too hot and their defense still struggles with passing.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:29 PM ^
Purdue throwing deep on a 2nd and inches is so Purdue and I'm here for it.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
Odd historic note: Johhny Unitas indicated that 2nd and short was his favorite, a "free play" in his words.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
That was actually a very common thing under Lloyd Carr. 2nd down and 1? Go for the deep pass. Nobody ever expects it.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:36 PM ^
PSU with a quick running back but my goodness only 31 yards so far against 101 by
Purdue.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:36 PM ^
WVU needs to work on their o line. Gonna get Daniels hurt
September 1st, 2022 at 8:42 PM ^
As bad as their o-line is Pitts secondary is worse.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:38 PM ^
Guess I didn’t remember that Ron English is the DC for Purdue
September 1st, 2022 at 8:41 PM ^
Purdue is doing a lot tonight with low recruiting. I wonder how the transfer portal is doing for the this team?
Apart from that the coaching is excellent
September 1st, 2022 at 8:51 PM ^
PSU -Purdue has been an interesting game. Neither team looks super hot but they're figuring themselves out.
I will say that I just don't see how PSU is going to be demonstrably better than they have been the past couple of years.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:54 PM ^
PSU Freshman RB look good. Clifford the same. Defense is respectable, not great. PSU 8-4, Purdue 7-5
September 1st, 2022 at 8:57 PM ^
He gone.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:58 PM ^
That was 100% targeting on Penn State
Edit: no matter what Mike Pereira thinks
September 1st, 2022 at 9:08 PM ^
Right? The Purdue player was barely moving. If the PSU player wanted to not go helmet-to-helmet he absolutely could have. The crew are absolutely wrong.
"He was going for the ball." Interesting. So do plenty of other players. And yet they somehow manage to do it without intentionally going for head-to-head contact.
September 1st, 2022 at 8:59 PM ^
These announcers are moroooons, as Bugs Bunny would say. That was blatant targeting.
September 1st, 2022 at 9:11 PM ^
I guess if you're "going for the ball" , feel free to smash your helmet into your opponent's head.
September 1st, 2022 at 9:01 PM ^
Someone recently made a post about how they were mad fox wasn’t broadcasting in 4k this year. Both fox and fs1 have the 4k options right now. Glad that was wrong.
September 1st, 2022 at 9:04 PM ^
Purdue is such a fun team to watch beat people you don't like.
