THERE ARE...
...days until Dom Tedesco (DL/LB 1974-1977) sees the Michigan Football team begin its quest to defend back-to-back Big Ten titles and beyond on September 2, 2023 against the East Carolina Pirates.

Thanks to aMAIZEinBLUEinTX for getting "opening day" of this tradition started. No worries on stepping on toes (guesting on the countdown has always happened), my only complaint is that you didn't just do it yourself so this could've been one thread, but the more the merrier I guess. We're back.
GO BLUE!
SO back.
Really wanted to get here in time to post “Paging Dr. Jaws.” Alas…
the doctor was in
As should be expected, one of this year's themes will be celebrating the first 13-win season in program history. That begins now...
Enjoy!
I would LOVE for the opener to be a 3:30 pm kickoff - just that much more time to enjoy the late summer weather and first tailgate of the season.
Time to start planning... Go Blue!
Thank you so much - I feel like football offseason countdown has officially begun!
Good to know re: guesting; I wasn't going to 'steal your thunder' on Day 1, merely hoping that Day 1 hadn't been overlooked -
Happy extended weekend to everyone that has such - Bang Bang!
GO BLUE
There's no thunder to be stolen – as long as a day isn't forgotten – just apologies for not getting it going sooner! Crazy night last night.
And, as is tradition for the first post of the year — let's restate the obvious (though I saw plenty of you got ahead of me on the other thread):
If you don’t enjoy these and think they're a waste of time, then don't waste your time...Don't click on these!
That being said, I am always looking to "make the annual spam less spam-y" and do a variety of bonus features alongside the post itself to keep things interesting (in addition to rotating the featured players themselves). These have included specific themes for some years of daily videos, NIL spotlights, the t-shirt countdown, a look back at the history of MGoBlog’s “The Story," a glimpse into the history of Michigan Football ticket stubs, and most recently the timeline of the Michigan Football uniform and the many performances of the Michigan Marching Band.
PLENTY more of that to come this year!
In 1976, Michigan DC Bill McCartney started Bob Lang at middle guard, Greg Morton and John Hennessy at defensive tackle, and Dom Tedesco and John Anderson at defensive end in his 5-2 defense.
After the season, Mac talked to Tedesco because they were having trouble recruiting at edge. Tedesco reminded his coach that he came to Michigan to play linebacker, and while he was happy to move to defensive line to help the team, guys know that linebacker has more fun and glory.
So for 1977, McCartney switched to a 3-4 defense. He started Steve Graves at nose guard, Dale Keitz and Curtis Greer at defensive tackle, and Dom Tedesco and John Anderson at outside linebacker.
Problem solved.
Gotta love a LB wearing #99!
Thanks Seth! (For sharing and, yknow...everything you do here).
While you're in here, I should mention this META issue that may implicate the future of "there are"...the site isn't letting me delete more recent old photos to make room on my disk for new ones.
I chose and wore the #99 throughout high school because of Robert Thompson. Schlichter didn't even see the truck that ran him over in the closing seconds of that 1980 game.
I also agree with the above poster and have heard it several times...what's the deal with the memory being full and not being able to delete old stuff?
Thanks Seth. All those names bring back great memories from my early days as a Michigan fan. 1977 was my freshman year at Michigan, and Dom Tedesco is one of the starters I remember.
Oh man - what a great post. I felt like Chris Pratt when I saw this post show up!
Hoping that 99 days goes by quickly, while simultaneously wanting summer to never go away -- one of the biggest mindfucks in life for me.
I felt the exact same way the last 3 glorious summers in Michigan (and 8 Big House game visits during the 2 CFP years); alas, having moved back to Texas - and the temperature outside in degrees Fahrenheit already rivaling that of the countdown clock number today - I foresee plenty of inside, A/C, shaded activities in addition to the pool the next few months. 'Fall' (aka not quite 100 degrees anymore) can't get here soon enough. It's beautiful October-April, for a coin-flip tradeoff.
It wouldn't be the offseason without the countdown. Let's do this. And welcome back, JWG!
This year's NIL spotlight section kicks off with graduate defensive lineman Cam Goode (seen here with a longtime fixture of the modern roster who will be missed):

Finally, countdown season.
I'd like to see Brian add a running daily counter on the homepage, the days since OSU beat us. There has to be an applet for that. DO IT BRIAN !!!
Already looking forward to Tom Harmon and Devin Gardner's intro....
THERE IT IS.
Yes!!!
Shout-out Pierre Woods
“Tedesco! Tedesco scores his first touchdown as a Meeeeeechigan football player!”
-Bob Ufer
I'll be excited when the time comes but I am going to try to enjoy summer and not rush the countdown to zero.
I will see you in September!
There's music for your message.
I remember Tedesco from my formative years of Michigan fandom. Also, for me, 97 days until I retire from working for The Man.
Yay! The countdown has begun. It won't be long until kickoff!
