There are...
...days until Ralph Fritz (OG 1939-1940) supports Michigan in spirit as it takes on the Rams of Colorado State in the 2022 season opener on September 3rd at the Big House.

Go Blue!
1940, of course, was the year of Tom Harmon — so this is a great opportunity to enjoy this gem...
Thanks (newly Prof) MVictors! Enjoy.
Just a wild guess but I'd bet that alcohol played a role in that little farce in Berkeley.
“So I says to my pals…” 🤣. Totally the lingo from the 40’s pre-Techocolor 🎥
Across the sun-drenched lawns
And the glistening water of countless lakes
Rises the sound
Children playing
Grills sizzling
Frisbees and boats and bike rides and campfires
The twilight fades only late in the night
And one barely thinks, or remembers
Football is coming
Beautiful, and your thoughts resonate.
One quibble though: thanks to JWG Wolverine, I'm not sure how accurate that next-to-last line is.
me thinks a certain beloved mgopastor is missing football, big time.
fall camp starts on 8/8 for our college player, reporting the day before on 8/7. so football is really only 36 days away.
Not a lot of #63's of note, but one is Julius Franks, who played Guard in 1942-44 and was either the first or second Black All-American to wear the Maize and Blue. Not sure what the controversy is, maybe George Jewett or Willis Ward were tabbed as All-Americans in some controversial fashion. One has to wonder how many wonderful Black athletes (and people) were denied the opportunity to demonstrate their athletic and academic skills in colleges prior to the 60's.
Most of the players from the 30s and 40s were still alive and attending games in the early to mid 80s when I was student at Michigan. Now they all have passed away. As you age into your 50s, you realize how short your life is.
