Today’s Michigan Marching Band album is probably the one that tugs at my heartstrings the most! Without growing up on it, who knows if I’d ever become a part of it? Released by the University’s own label in 1985 on CD (with an abridged version on cassette), Fire Up..It’s Saturday features a massive grab-bag of quintessential sound of Band #87 under the direction of Eric Becher. Other than the most complete set of traditionals ever assembled under one release to that point, the album also includes the tunes featured on the Rose Bowl Highlights EP from two years earlier. Other personal favorite tracks: an electric version of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “Star,” 80s film encapsulation with themes from E.T. and Rocky,  jazzy fun with A-Train/In the Mood/Gospel John, as wel as  “Little Brown Jug” (enough said). It remains one of the most popular pieces of MMB discography to this day.

Super sad to report that (as far as I could tell) there is no complete recording of this album available online. There are, however, previews for some songs available at this link:

I would agree that it poses the biggest worry, but the good news is that we shouldn't be too worried.  We have a bona fide star coach leading them with a lot of talented options for kickers.  On top of that, we shouldn't have any nail biters through the first several games.  I have faith that JayBaugh and the special teams will be ready when the games get close.

I obviously don’t want Harbaugh to ever leave here, ever! But when he does I’d be fine with Jay taking over. The guy has more football knowledge in his pinky toe than 95% of the candidates we’d consider. He’s been a top flight position coach no matter where he’s been assigned. Nature versus nurture.
