Tebow "quickens" your pulse

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/austin_murphy/06/26/thril… Get real. Tim Tebow is the 5th most thrilling player in college football history, according to SI. Really? Barry Sanders? Adrian Peterson? Marshall Faulk? Desmond Howard? Peter Warrick? Charlie Ward? Tommy Frazier? All way more exciting than TT. Tebow is good, but I would never claim that the way he plays "quickens my pulse" (maybe if he were a Wolverine I'd disagree, but Demps, Rainey and Harvin were Florida's exciting players last year, not Tebow). Pat White was a much more exciting QB to watch and evoked a much more "visceral response" in how he played. And needless to say, I watched a highlight reel of Tebow on Youtube, and then watched Charles Woodson's Heisman reel. Tebow never did anything as exciting as the interception against Michigan State.

Hell, Armanti Edwards and Dennis Dixon are more thrilling to watch than Tebow. I guess I shouldn't be surprised by this article though; a lot of media seem to think Tebow's the second coming of Jesus. edit: Besides, this is the most exciting video of Tebow out there.

This is absolute bull. Tebow isn't that exciting as a player. QBs as a whole aren't that exciting. Only the scrambling QBs are exciting. I wouldn't say I was ever really excited when Chad Henne dropped back to pass unless I saw Manningham sprinting 50 yards down field. RBs are definitely the most exciting position to watch in football IMO.

I'd agree that he's not "exciting" per se, but I'd buy, unlike other responders here, that he's one of the best college players ever - at least by the time this season is over.

I know that list is just one guy's opinion, but if we're talking about thrilling college football players, I'm not sure how you leave Vick off. He was, in my opinion, one of the most electrifying athletes to ever play the game.

... that Tim Tebow is the only one of the mentioned players who had a plaque made from a thoroughly mediocre apology speech. That kind of nonsense deserves at LEAST a 5 spot. Especially in a SI midsummer ranking. God bless. -Foote Fetish July 9th, 2009

When Austin Murphy says that Tebow is one of the all-time bests "at quickening the pulse and evoking a visceral response," is it possible to interperet this as refering to anything other than Mr. Murphy's erection?

This reporter fails to realize this fact. While Tim Tebow is one of the great college football players of all time, he is by no means more exciting than Reggie Bush or any of the other 5 players he was erroneously slotted ahead of. The only reason Tebow is on this list is because he is the center of a never ending media orgy/lovefest.

the guy who was pushing HCG on another thread and now you are the morality police? I find that pretty contradictory. Talking about how good a drug is and that the side effects are in essence a "myth" I find to be far more offensive than a joke (whether that joke is in good or bad taste). Just sayin' Being an MD I know the side effects are far from a myth. Also, I have a brother in law who esentially has tits now because he was taking it. Try telling him they are a myth.

I think you are confusing Wolvin with someone else. He merely said he had tried HGH (not HCG). It was a different poster who claimed there were little to no side effects. And are you sure you can get gynoclamastia from using HGH. Steroid, yes. I didn't think that was the case with HGH.

This writer is an ass to begin with, and the fact that he equates great with exciting is wrong IME. "Great" is like I had a great dump today. Was it exciting? Not really. "Exciting" is like I saw Meagan Fox in a g-string....That's exciting. Also, I agree with the Vick sentiment. He was one of the most exciting players I have ever seen play football.

Did anyone read that Percy Harvin quote about Tebow? He said that if he could change places with anyone it would be Tim Tebow, because TT got more offers for sex than anyone he's ever seen. Tebow never accepted, accd. to Percy. Percy thought that was crazy of TT -- that he had inhuman powers of self control.

"Thrilling" players to watch are someone like Dennis Dixon, with a lot of agility and quickness and good ball fakes. Someone who uses the deep ball a lot (for good or for bad) is also "thrilling", since there's a big gain or an interception at stake. I guess by this definition, Juice Williams is a thrilling player to watch. He has good ball fakes, can run decently, gets stuck throwing deep a lot, and has a lot of big completions and interceptions... so he's pretty well qualified. That being said, Mike Hart was not a "thrilling" player, but he was still a darn good one. It's foolish to equate the two.

what do you guys think? There is a very good chance that UF will win the nat'l championship this season. If this happens, tebow will be in the top 3 at least for the heisman. if he wins both this year, do you think he will/should be considered the greatest college football player ever? 2 heismans and 3 nat'l championship careers don't happen all the time.

Yes, players with 2 Heismans and 3 NC's don't come around everyday. BIG if, but if that happens, he would certainly be the most decorated player ever. Does that make him the best player ever? No. Does it make him pretty damn close, I would have to say so. Even if he does neither this year, 2 NC's and a Heisman is pretty damn good by itself.

How many people would rather Tebow win the Heisman to take away OSU's claim to the only two-time Heisman winner; as opposed to putting up with the full on Tebow lovefest that would ensue should he win again.

If I have the name right, it is the Miami QB who won a Heisman and a NC (I think) in early 1990s. Was he good, or did he have a great cast around him. I don't dispute Tebow is very good. But where is he if not playing on this team with this coach. Not the top player in the country. Granted, Heisman awards do relate to team success, and I don't begrudge him getting awards. But how good is he really.
