Tate's willingness to explain coverage reads, etc.

So much information as in common football knowledge that any QB not named Terrelle "Everybody Murders" Pryor knows?

What??? What kind of a comment is that?
September 13th, 2009 at 8:26 AM ^
Everybody on the field knows and everybody on the field knows that everybody else on the field knows. Tate's not revealing any sort of inside info.

I'll work on ensuring all the tapes, YouTubes, etc. are erased.

Basically he's saying that every quarterback in the country knows that a cover 0 means that no one on defense has the qb on cover 0. It's not like he's dishing out future gameplans and telling other teams our plays. That information he shared is what everybody is taught.

A Cover 0 indicates there is no safety covering deep, man coverage, and therefore the Dis bunched at the line of scrimmage. Therefore every player on the field essentially has one man to beat, QB included. Tate just had to beat 1 player, and he knew he was gone.

Cover 0 is what the defense is playing. I don't think its any big secret to other coaches that if you play us in a Cover 0 we're going to try to run past you for a touchdown.

I understand that. What I'm saying is that he's coming right out and saying exactly what he saw the defense do that made him pick exactly what to do.
September 13th, 2009 at 12:08 PM ^
so are you saying that he should be feigning ignorance to make future opponents think he doesn't know how to read defenses? Are you Eric Mangini?
September 13th, 2009 at 12:47 PM ^
What he /didn't/ say is that by knowing no one has the QB he is going to run every time, but that he knows that he can if no one is open. If they know he knows he can run, they will step in on him when he scrambles, opening up a deep pass like in the WMU game for that first touchown pass to Hemingway.

he didn't even say that he chose to run because it was cover zero, but simply that once he beat the guy on the defensive line, he knew that he was gone, based on the fact that they were in cover zero. His statement shed light on his expectations during the play, not the decision-making going into the play.
To the OP: The information he gave up was nothing more than that he correctly read what defense they were in, and it allowed him to know what to expect as the play unfolded. Now all of our opponents know that Tate can read defensive coverages! Egad!

It's not like coaches from opposing teams couldn't just watch the film and find out what defense ND was in and what play UM ran...

This is not a big deal.
How does this differ from:
I saw the safeties playing up, so I audibled a receiver to a deep route?
Pretty common stuff.

All this gives away is the following:
Tate Forcier is not an idiot and knows how to read defenses.

Tate hasn't been given his media coach yet. Students usually enroll in that course their sophomore year when they expect to see some playing time. Tate is just ahead of the curve!!
