Tate's health vs Winning

Submitted by MaizenBlueBP on
After watching how careful and cautious both the Florida Gators and the Oklahoma Sooners were with their injured star quarterbacks I started to wonder about ours. As we know Tate's shoulder injury is quite similar to that of Oklahoma's Sam Bradford. Granted it isn't of the same severity it's definitely not just a sore shoulder like RR said. I think Tate's numbers since the injury can tell you that. Then there is the concussion that Tate suffered on his last play against Iowa. Granted again that it was not as severe as the one suffered by Tim Tebow it is still a concussion and if not properly rested can become a much bigger problem. We all saw how many doctors and trainers were involved with testing Tebow and making sure he was cognitively ready as well as physically ready to play against LSU. Yet we hear nothing about the decision making process other then that as long as Tate practices by today then he's good to go. We are playing FCS opponent Delaware State. At what point do you continue to jeopardize Tate's long term health? It's clear that we need Tate much more next week then we do against the Hornets this Saturday. All we need is for Tate to be out there against DSU and have a missed assignment lead to further, more serious injury. I know you want to win and execute RR but a players health is much more important then running up 60 on Delaware State.

I really think you are underestimating RR here. He's a good coach and it's been already established that he cares a lot about his players. Tate's decision to play has a LOT to do with whether or not he plays. If there's any real danger, other than some pain, RR wouldn't let him play. They say the same thing to all their players. When Molk broke his foot he kept trying to play but the coaches took him out. Minor always tries to play with his bad ankle but again the coaches take him out when they know it's really bothering him. If there's any real problems with Tate, they won't let him play. Period.

I completely agree that the utmost care should be used with Tate, more so with the concussion. I wondered about McGuffie playing last year against O$U when he already had 2 concussions in the season.

RR won't let Tate play if he really is hurt and in danger of further injuring himself. Either way I expect to see a lot of Denard. No worries.

Just because the national media isn't planted up Tate's ass 24/7 like they are with Tebow, doesn't mean the UM staff isn't showing the same amount of concern/caution as UF's with their respective quarterbacks. Same goes for Bradford. Returning Heisman Trophy winners tend to get covered by the media a little closer than other players.

I disagree that Flordia's treatment of Tebow was better than RR's treatment of Tate. Florida waited until the morning of the game for Tebow to be cleared. RR said that if Tate wasn't medically cleared by Wednesday, he wasn't playing on Saturday. RR wanted to make sure Tate was truly healthly before he played. This seems more cautious than Florida's approach (which I think was OK under the rules). As has been pointed out, don't confuse media coverage with medical coverage. Tebow and Meyer are attention-whores. I seriously doubt that Michigan has inferior medical resources for its players. I don't think that the Bradford situation is comparable. Bradford is reportedly hurt far worse than Tate. I suspect that he will play when he recovers to the point where Tate is now. I do get your concern for Tate (or any other player). If we get up big I would have a problem with playing Tate just to hang 60. However, I think you are making a big leap here to conclude that Rich Rod is willing to risk Frocier's health.

when he seemed to be making poor decisions vs. Iowa. It wasn't a medical decision, but I do think RR knew that Tate wasn't feeling right. The fact that he was later diagnosed with a low grade concussion speaks to RR's football judgment. Within a game there is some grey area, but on a college level a trainer will help make these calls. I'm happy with RR's take in the Iowa game at least. Outside the game, Doctors come into play along with trainers. Questionable players get marked for non contact and are evaluated daily. Michigan is not coming up short on this front IMHO. Let's not go to a trainergate mentality please. Tate and Denard are undersized wrt the avg college D-line. They need to Barwisize (which can address some of the injury potential at least.) It was odd not to have Carlos Brown on the injury report - when he didn't even travel (I think I have that right.) Especially when RR made such a point of suggesting this to all the Big Ten Coaches.

Hello. I am convinced that we all should care more about our health. Now the treatment can be really expensive and albendazole coupon on RX24drugs is really useful. Personally, I saved about 80% of the money I should have spent. I just couldn't wish for more.
