Submitted by kakusei on

MICHIGAN STUDENTS:

BOYCOTT PENN STATE KICKOFF.

DO NOT GO TO YOUR SEATS UNTIL AFTER KICKOFF.

WAIT OUTSIDE SECTION GATES, AND TOGETHER WE CAN:

DESTROY BRANDON'S UTL BABY WHILE STILL SUPPORTING THE TEAM.

DEMONSTRATE OUR 'OUTSTANDING' RELATIONSHIP WITH THE AD

DISPATCH BRANDON BEFORE HE DESTROYS THE PRIDE OF OUR UNIVERSITY

IMAGINE:

AN EMPTY STUDENT SECTION FROM THE BLIMP CAM ON NATIONAL TV

AN EMBARASSED BRANDON ON THE SIDELINE

A SCHOOL UNITED IN ITS RESOLVE

SUPPORT THE TEAM &

END BRANDON SATURDAY

HE IS NOT MICHIGAN. WE ARE.

#kickOUTbrandon (instead of kickoff. heh. get it?)

GET THE WORD OUT.

details / logistical discussion below.

The football team sucks, there's not really any reason to pin an empty stadium on the athletic director directly. Anybody looking at the stadium would just conclude that we've been watching the games this year.

In addition to that student leaders should organize cheers to keep up the pressure on Brandon. Just like a running back punishing defensive linemen as the game wears on so to do those cheers hurt Brandon and make him realize he is no longer wanted by the community as AD.

Here are a couple of chants for Penn State:

1.) Fire Brandon

2.) Save us Regents

3.) Save us Schlissel

4.) We want free Coke

5.) This ain't dominoes

6.) This ain't wall street

7.) We want refunds

These are all I can think of for now and you can be sure that I will be chanting them in section 25 row 4 at the Penn State game.

I still don't understand why we need to further embarrass the program to restate a point that has already been made loud and clear. Recruits will be here who likely aren't involved with the AD drama. Seems like we're kicking ourselves in the crotch for our own amusement now.

Thank you, sir, but I was there. I am fully aware of the state of affairs...as is everyone who has any knowledge of Michigan, B1G, or likely even college football as a whole. It was sad how playing away yesterday seemed like more of an advantage than playing at home...no booing (coaches, players, whatever).

I want a change too, and have voiced my concerns. Just because something doesn't change according to my schedule doesn't mean it won't happen. I guess when people are making fun of me, I'm not the kind of guy to create fuel for the fire.

on twitter: "FWIW, a few parents of recruits told me the losing and development is more of a concern for them with Michigan than concussiongate."

So lets see: recruits are worried about winning (which despite it being just a statistic, we aren't doing) and player development (which isn't happening in any sort of consistent manner) over all the noise around the concussion issue.

Gee, a player chooses a college based on how much that experience promotes them and prepares them for the next level.

I would suggest congregating OUTSIDE of the gates until y'all march in at the same time.  If you enter and chill in the concourse, knowing our excellent leader he will have already directed all of the ushers to herd the cattle to their seats by threatening them all with eviction while highlighting the "no re-entry" policy.

If you wait outside, they won't deny entry to all of you if you wait until after kickoff.

Re-entry is for leaving the stadium proper, has nothing to do with milling around the concourse. If you wait outside Gate !0 and try to enter enmasse you will create two clusterf&@ks-- one trying to scan your tickets and then another at the portals . This will probably piss off many athletic dept. minions but not neccesarily sway public opinion much.  Bottlenecks  at portals 25 thru 32 ought to be sufficient.

Also I tailgate in the Crisler parking lot right along Stadium, so I'm thinking about putting up a sign that can be seen from the street saying ''Honk if you think Dave Brandon should be fired''

That will do nothing but embarrass the program and school ! National televised game and no student section. This idea is ridiculous, it will do nothing but make us an even bigger laughing stock than we have already been.

I understand your sentiment. I disagree with your conclusion. Brandon is as good as gone. It really is irrelevant at this point whether he goes now or sometime between now and January. He has done some good here. But at the end of the day I think we can all agree, that his micromanagement do the football team is out of line and that he grossly overplayed his hand when he decided to encourage students to shoe up for the beginning of noon games. As an alum, I agree with the students on the second issue. While he has tried to apologize, and vowed to make good, it's surely to little too late and another example of running roughshod over a segment do the michigan community without doing his homework. What I don't understand and don't agree with is how failing to show up at kickoff will affect anything. Support your University. Yout Team. Against penn state in a big game. The kids need your support noe more than ever. Have the guts and the foresight to know and act like a fan base that cares about it's team and will root on the team despite its record and performance. I've no doubt the student demonstration last week was well intentioned. It may have had some tangential affect. But the greatest impacts were to cause the rest do the country to look at the students as whining about a team which has not perfomed as it would like and to give doubt to the players of your support. I'd respectfully suggest that the students show up early. Not late. If you want to make your point bring a cardboard sign on the walk. By showing up early and filling the seats you can show the university the alums and the players how much you do care. That it is your university. That you are not apathetic. And if you what to be heard and be given a voice and cannot think a better way to do so or a preside that won't listen after showing that you care and attend to support your classmates. As a current ad candidate has said: “Leadership is creating an atmosphere for others to be successful,” http://archive.freep.com/article/20140427/COL24/304270098/Carol-Cain-Wa… Te ad search and what follows will take care of itself. Lets show some leadership. Lets get on board with this team and do all in our power to pull them along. Go Blue.

They are putting Hoke's pressers on espn and the circus is getting national coverage. Anything like the student not showing up till whenever will make the highlight reel.

I don't think the nation is going to be watching the game on ESPN2 or whatever but the highlights will be seen by everyone and it was be made a story.

Also if the game gets out of hand and the chants start up, that will be talked about till the end of the game since that will be more interesting than the game itself.

Sometimes it takes more intestinal fortitude to do the right thing and to support something than it does to try to tear something down. this is one of those times. Chant all you want Bring signs. Wear fire bramdon shirts. D a colorcodedfore brandon as suggested. But show up and support Your Team Brandon is already done. Don't let him spoil your support for your classmates.

If you are going to change AD then it needs to be now to allow the new AD time to get their feet planted and make a move at the end of the season wrt CC.

That is the urgency that needs to be expressed however it is done.  I have reservations that DB will not move on.  The next guy needs to do the hiring ... not DB.

It seems pretty clear from schlissel, statement that change is coming. I have confidence that he's already begun that process. None of us know the specific timeline nor should we. Nor will the students failure to show up by kickoff have any impact on that timeline. The people that need to know the consensus of the students and many alumni already know. The idea of letting everyone know your discontent with a specific person is not a bad one. But why let that negatively impact the team so many here care about so much, which it most surely will. Again, turn the focus to Brandon, not something which will be interpreted by the team, your classmates, country, future coaching candidates, recruits and others as apathy.

This will only make things worse... We don't want to be on national tv with empty student section. You will only be hurting the program. Chant and just support the team!

I think some of you forget that the internet is a thing. If the stadium is empty at kickoff but people eventually march in chanting Fire Brandon everyone will get what is actually going on.

If John U. Bacon is to be believed, Brandon is gone regardless, so this may not be necessary.

I don't really see the point in "boycotting the kickoff" and then coming in right after, either.  This would just mean that the student section will be full most of the game and most viewers won't have any idea your "boycott" happened.

jmblue

October 5th, 2014 at 3:16 PM ^

How would that differ from the many other times we've had half-empty student sections at kickoff?

The main point of a boycott is to engage in behavior contrary to what you'd normally do.  Our students have a reputation for showing up late as it is so this would just be following their normal M.O.

If you really want to hit Brandon hard, come to game early and chant anti-Brandon stuff for hours.  (But again - it probably doesn't actually matter at this point.)

Show up early. Cheer loud for our student athletes. By not showing up you are screwing the players over more than you are screwing Dave brandon. Don't be one of those fans that only supports their team when everything looks rosy and they're winning. Every program goes through its down times. This is ours. Now man the eff up and be there for the players.

No you are dumb. You are one of those idiots that says..."uhhhhh...if we all just stop buying gas on Tuesdays .. Uh...we'll really show the oil company's...yeah...LETS SHOW EM GUYS."
And I'm really sure the players like losing. Yeah right. They don't care at all. They don't commit five years of their lives. 24/7/365... dedicated to football and conditioning..busting their asses...and they want to lose.
SO YEAH. LETS SHOW UP LATE GUYS. THAT'll SHOW EM!
Let's take it out on the kids because "they don't care".

I AGREE!

Show up early.  But four ice cold hot dogs, not one.  Drink plenty of bottles of $3.00 water.  Enjoy 7 Nation Army (all 47 times it's played).  Learn the words to Sweet Caroline.  Buy all the extra tickets you see from scalpers in front of Crisler (scalpers gotta eat you know).  Sit where we tell you to sit regardless of what year in school you are.  Don't bring cowbells and don't bring marshmellows (terrorists could be lurking you know)

True fans allow the athletic department to do whatever they want without protest.  True fans follow and show their support to their athletic overlords no matter how much they disagree with the direction of the program.  True fans will pay whatever is charged no matter how shitty the product on the field cause they're "true fans".
