Story on UM OL and Bronco Starter Michael Schofield

Submitted by StephenRKass on

There's a nice story in the Chicago Tribune on former Michigan OL Michael Schofield, who is starting for the Bronco's in the Super Bowl.

LINK:  Michael Schofield takes unusual path to Super Bowl with Denver Broncos.

EDIT:  This is paywalled by the Trib. Sorry about that. I tried to search for a non-paywalled version, and didn't find it. Hopefully some of the links below work.

It's a feel good fluff article, but still good to see a Michigan grad starting in the Super Bowl.

Here's to hoping for Glasgow's future, and to also see a return to many OL from Michigan going on to the NFL.

I cringed when they drafted him in the 3rd round! a 3rd rounder who didn't get a snap in his rookie year, pretty rare and telling.

he was terrible this year. forced into action with clady and sambrilo hurt. gave up 5 sacks one game against mack. they finally took him off the strong side, and is playing a little better. all in all, not a very good player yet, but oh how I hope he gets a ring today!

He is an average O Lineman at best right now for the Broncos.  He is a little better in rush protection than pass protection.  At times he was brutal and needed to be replaced.  So hard as a Michigan fan and Bronco fan to want him to sit.  At the same time I am very happy for him to be a Superbowl Champ (Superbowl 50 no less).  I really hope he gets better this off season with his hands and feet.  I feel like because he is not confident with his hands he leans.  When he leans his feet are slow and gets beat to the outside quite a bit.  Because he is slow with his feet he is susceptible to the bull rush and gets pressed back into the pocket.  He has a lot of work ahead of him to keep his starting job.  However, he is a wolverine and hopefully his tenacity with see him through!

Go Blue!  Go Broncos!

2008: Ricky Barnum, Rocko Khoury, Elliott Mealer, Dann O'Neill and Kurt Wermers.

2009: Taylor Lewan, Michael Schofield and Quinton Washington.

2010: Christian Pace. WTF?!

The 2010 class was a disaster. Even the 2011 OL class was not good... just Chris Bryant and Tony Posada. I know Hoke was hired late, but he should have tried to pick up another lineman. Even a MAC-level guy would have been better than nothing.
