The State Of Our Open Threads: After UNLV

I was actually at the game yesterday, so let me say first that, having now seeing at least some portions of the CBS broadcast this morning (mostly plays I wanted to see again for my own edification), I get the feeling that CBS Sports considers covering the Big Ten something of a letdown, if the tone of Nessler and Danielson was any indication. No matter. They will get use to us in time. I can't wait to hear them be disappointed with some of our seedier conference games.

Getting back to the subject at hand of course, if the ECU thread was quiet, this one was even quieter. Again, home games tend to generate smaller threads because a fair number of the people who might be posting are at the game, at local watch parties, etc... Even so, this thread actually was comparative anomaly in that it failed to even break 1,000 posts. If we get such a small thread at all, it is usually in the non-conference slate, but with going on 11 seasons of data, we haven't had very many (the last was the UConn thread last season at 881 posts though).

Some highlights from the data:

The numbers in many cases were fairly similar to the East Carolina numbers - 25 fucks given compared to 19 last week, 19 shits given compared to 24 last week. Some variations, but such low numbers usually indicate very few complaints about the game on the whole.

One thing that was substantially lower was the "suck" though - only six instances this week, primarily because the game was not on Peacock perhaps. There was a marked decrease in the amount of "Harbaugh" talk, with only 19 instances this week, which is down from 30 last week. I suppose that we are at peace with this temporary self-imposed inconvenience then.

There was a slight increase in "fire", 22 mentions to 28 mentions, although this time it was mostly in jest as opposed to being directed at someone or something, like Peacock. There was a slight decrease in mentions of "defense", 28 to 22, and I can only assume that we're fine with it. Of course, we've not played anyone that can really match it - yet.

We are tracking "Corum" mentions this year, as well as "JJ" and others, and it is work noting that talk of McCarthy carried the entire total really. With only 332 instances of tracked words altogether, it is important to note that 117 of those were related to our QB.

Anyway, 332 instances across 959 posts makes for an overall efficiency of 2.89, which is historically in "comfortable win" territory, a place with typically find ourselves rather a lot lately. Let us hope that trend continues, right?

Next week, a true UTL moment as we face.....Bowling Green.

Aluminum is a soft metal, which means the thickness of your siding makes a tremendous difference. Cheap aluminum siding is 0.4 inches thick, commonly referred to as 40-gauge aluminum. The standard is 44 gauge, but homeowners who wish for the best in this type of siding will purchase the 53-gauge siding. 53-gauge siding is more expensive but the cost is outweighed by the life expectancy of the siding. Do not sleep on the 53-gauge. It will change your life in a great way!

So I sit down on the couch with the bride (of many decades) and suddenly Nessler and Danielson appear on the tube as the announcing duo: I look at her and say, "Do those two remind you of Statler and Waldorf from The Muppets Show"?

The broadcast was funnier after we shared that realization.

Edit/add: they call a decent game. But, yes, they don't seem impressed with the trench warfare style of football that sometimes defines a B1G game.

Idk about you guys, but the NBC broadcast was the prettiest broadcast I’ve seen in terms of colors popping on the screen and looking extremely crisp.

Fox always has a weird yellowish/orangish tint to it, and ESPN/ABC always mute their colors - same with CBS.

NBC has a slight bluish/greenish hue to it, but it really looked great.

I really appreciated the CBS broadcast after watching Peacock's B1G TURD the week before.  Also, to Nessler's and Danielson's credit, they praised Michigan's talent and coaching quite a bit.

Maybe a lot of the Fucks were directed at Gary Danielson- both of mine were. Dude was complaining about reversing some pretty obvious calls that went Michigan's way. Dickhead.

I'm not a Danielson fan, so I try to listen to him with only one ear or less. But I did hear him say something that I think was about JJ's passes. It was along the lines of "haven't seen a fastball like that around this area since Jack Morris."

Now, no question that Jack was great, but all I could think was, "CBS? Justin Verlander on line 1."

I was tempted to add a bunch of "fuck" and a lot of "shit," just to skew the numbers for fun.

But then the Code of MGoBlog kicked in, and I knew I should never violate the C of MGB.
