Stadium Construction

Does anyone know whats going to be done in the stadium renovation for nextyr? I know it wont be totally completed until the 2010 season, but whats going to be done for the 2009 season? I got the feeling most of everything will be done, just the old pressbox will still be remaining, in which the 2010 season the old pressbox is finally gone? Does anyone know whats really going on? On average the stadium loudness should jump from 100 DB to 110 DB, which is pretty crazy bc 3db is doubling of noise, so this is tripling noise. Plus, thats on average, imagine a 3rd down play when were on defense. Just adding the structures is going to jump 10db.. But usually, when your in a loud surrounding, it makes everyone else more in the mood and be louder, so it may very well be even higher than that on average. Home field advantage here we come.

I could have sworn that 10 db is doubling of sound. I thought we went through this whole db discussion in an earlier thread, I believe comparing U of M to Oregon

Yes, we did. And while you are technically doubling the sound pressure for every how-many-ever decibels (I don't remember the actual amount), the actual perceived increase in volume isn't nearly as dramatic. Human perception of sound pressure is somewhat asymptotic -- an increase in volume from 30db to 40db is much more noticeable than an increase from 110db to 120db.

I have a very close connection with one of the companies doing work on the stadium. For some reason, probably cost, they will be pushing a few things back on the project till probably April, when it starts to warm up. I'm guessing that the place will be almost completely enclosed by the time the season starts (if not completely). I've noticed that on the West side for the stadium it looks like their already working on a number of interior fixtures. I'm excited to see the completion of the new indoor facility. That's going to be a beautiful building. I remember Bill Martin saying they wanted to get that enclosed by the time the snow started this winter but I'm not sure if that actually happened.

I was in the "luxury boxes are the devil" boat for a long time, but I'm actually pretty glad they're doing it. Much more noise kept in the stadium, better concessions, and MORE BATHROOMS.

Remember... anything u do construction wise, it cud look done, but theres a shitload of little things u can work on. It may look done by first game, but the inside, electronic, walls in the inside that may not be done.

they can already hear a difference this year with the partial construction. I also understand the actual completion of the press box itself has been pushed back to 2010. Now, if they can replace the scoreboards with a godzillatron (like at Texas' stadium) that would REALLY keep the sound in!
