Spartan Billboard in Ann Arbor

Submitted by romoteen14 on
Driving home yesterday from work I saw something very interesting. About 6 miles from Michigan statdium on eastbound 94 right before US 23 exit theres a huge billboard with the spartan team. The billboard is ok but being so close to UM do you think it will stay up for long? Do we have a billboard right by MSU?

We did have one near columbus. On US 33 between Dublin and Columbus I saw it a few weeks back when I was down there for a soccer tourney. One of my teammates took a great picture with a milage sign "Columbus 4mi" with the block M billboard in the background!

The U of M Health System used to place a full page ad (with lots of maize and blue) within the first couple pages of Columbus Monthly magazine. Although great to see, it seemed out of place. I wondered how long the locals would allow such an atrocity - haven't seen it in several months... Don't think a billboard would last very long either (hacksaws, blowtorches, dynamite, etc).

It just doesn't strike me as self-respecting, which is nothing if not especially true of the bluster-y ones that went up after they beat our pasty 3-9 asses last year.

i cant start a new thread with my low point status. is it possible for UM to pick up the buick open? is the course on campus pga level? and they are more than comfortable with hosting thousands of fans. think of the revenue it would generate. jus wondering

UM's golf course is overrated. It is only talked about because it was designed by Alister MacKenzie, who designed two of the top 5 courses in the country (Cypress Point and Augusta National). The thing that I love about the course is that I can hit the ball 270 in the wrong direction, end up on some other fairway, and still have a decent shot at par. Nice for me but not challenging enough for the pros.

I haven't been there for years, and don't even know if the hole I'm talking about plays as #9 or #18 now, but legend has it that when Jack Nicklaus played for OSU, he was in the parking lot in back of the downhill par-five going toward the clubhouse with a drive and a wedge. This is when clubs had steel shafts and wooden heads, and the balls probably flew at least twenty yards less than they do now, resulting in a net of at least forty yards less distance with the same swing. I tend to agree with the poster who said that the course is waay too easy for contemporary tour players. The course isn't long enough and there isn't a lot of room to expand it. This would probably leave the course defenseless against tour players, but it would be nice to see how they handled putting, most notably the "State Street break." If the subtle, unseen breaks made the greens difficult enough, I could see the course failing to yield a 59. If they don't, though, I think the winning score could be as much as 30-under.

It is a par four now. It's about 250 to the pond in front of the green and about 150 in to the center of the green from their. And it's way down hill. That hole plays 5 - wood 9 iron nowadays, not sure how impressive that might have been back in the day though.

The venue isn't the problem; the problem is the fact that GM is pulling their sponsorship of the event. Therefore, it won't be the Buick Open anymore. This is why the future of the event is in doubt. If a sponsor can be found, then I don't see why it would leave Warwick Hills.

I drive by that billboard every day coming home from work. Definately an EMU billboard. EMU football advertises similar billboards on Ann Arbor busses and such, and has had a billboard in one place or another for a while now.

I hope you know that your picture is not actually Tim Tebow's girlfriend. Your picture is of Lucy Pinder. Tim Tebow was with a similar looking girl a few years back. Whether Tim and this woman were dating, remains unknown.
