5 now...

FSU (the only one I looked up) played Kansas, Duke, UNC, Clemson, Georgia Tech (two of whom were ranked) so I don't think our accomplishment is quite up to that level. Now, we could easily get to 8 with our schedule, however, seems unlikely as it requires some luck to not have a random play pop, especially if the 2nd-string is in late in games. Glad they got JJ out early today.

Probably not at that level. I will say though that in the last two decades football is more offense oriented than defense. A lot more running QBs and I can't say the same about 90s or before.

Interesting to note that BGSU, just beat Georgia Tech and UNLV beat Vanderbilt. And Rutgers is a good team. Soft schedule, yes, but maybe not as much as it seemed before season started.

With some chance to keep this streak going. Be talked about in several senses with those FSU and AL squads.

Pretty sure both FSU and Alabama were National Champions those years too, right?

Yup, I just looked it up. We're tied with them

Only allowing 3TD in 5 games with 2 of them in garbage time. Also only allowing 30 points total in 5 games.
Can we keep it going next weekend?

This team is looking like close to 1997 on D (a lot depends on the secondary getting the rust fully off0) The D-line is better. But, this offense is substantially better than 1997.

Nice. Needs to culminate in a National Championship!
GO BLUE!!

This team is playing awfully well...honestly, we won't know how well until the last three games of the year when we actually play some 'probably' ranked teams.
September 30th, 2023 at 8:32 PM ^
I complain ALOT about our offense just like in years past, but the team tends to go to a new level when we play higher competition. I just wish we'd play that way all season
September 30th, 2023 at 8:51 PM ^
That 1993 FSU team was a great one. Heisman winner Charlie Ward, future NFL stud Derrick Brooks and even Devin Bush Sr. was on that squad.

Nice stat, but we did play 5 bad teams. Rutger may be the best of the five.
That said… pretty good company!
September 30th, 2023 at 9:23 PM ^
Definitely bad competition but we aren't the only team in the last 30 years to play bad competition. It just shows how hard it is to outscore teams 30+ to 7 5 games in a row
October 1st, 2023 at 12:23 AM ^
Yep.
1979 Alabama played the following teams through its first 5 games:
4-6-1 Georgia Tech
8-4 Baylor
1-10 Vanderbilt
1-10 Wichita State
0-10-1 Florida
Whenever Alabama played a ranked team later in the season, things were a lot closer.
Ex: #1 Alabama beat #18 Tennessee 27-17 and #14 Auburn 25-18.
Heck, that Bama team won 3-0 at 7-5 LSU. (Yes, Bama scored only a FG.)
/1993 FSU had a much more impressive resume against far superior competition through 5 games.

Also have to factor in different eras where scoring in general is up and it is harder to keep teams from scoring, even ones that aren't very good.
