Some good basketball news today (Jaylen Brown)

Submitted by bballislife22 on

Good news on the Jaylen Brown front. Definitely do not want to copy and paste straight from Scout, but to paraphrase a little bit, two separate sources (Sam Webb and Brian Snow) have heard that not only is Michigan in the running for Brown's services next year, but that we are in the top TWO. Both insiders are unsure who the other team in the top two would be. Kentucky, Kansas, and UCLA are possibilities.

For those who have a Scout membership, the information can be found here:

Trying not to get my hopes up too high here, but I think if we somehow scored Brown, and Caris came back, we would be a top five team next year.

Just thinking about it, I doubt Kentucky is the other team in his top 2 being that they're still playing and the coaching staff probably doesn't have much time to recruit while they're dealing with game preparation

Everyone talks about not recruiting at the same level of Kansas, Kentucky, and Duke but outside of UK, you can argue Michigan has been more successful than Duke and Kansas the last 4 four years. If I remember correctly, it was against Kansas some fella named Trey Burke made the amazing game-tying three leading to the Michigan win against.

I think the recruiting talk stems from the fact that we missed the tournament.  I know the injuries played a HUGE role, but its hard to accept that this deep into Beilein's tenure we had a rebuild.   Mostly was due to unexpected guys blowing up into top 10 picks and the absurd NCAA ruling on McGary.

We needed continuity.  But you won't have that when a guy like Gr3 leaves to be a second round pick, Mcgary fails a drug test that everyone is well aware that could take place.

I think we dropped the ball a bit on McGary to be honest.  We should have had team admisintered tests to make sure they don't run into problems with the NCAA test.  Could have pre-suspended him that way.

"Don’t expect a college decision from Jaylen Brown, Malik Newman or Stephen Zimmerman during McDonald’s All-American week.

All three players spoke to the Herald-Leader on Sunday night in Chicago, where they will take part in McDonald’s week festivities leading up to Wednesday night’s nationally televised all-star game.

Brown said he had “about a month” to go in his recruitment during one point in the conversation. He also said it was “fair to say” that he could wait until current college players announce their NBA intentions before making his own college choice.

If a decision comes before that, it seems unlikely to be Kentucky.

“If I choose a school within the next two weeks that I think I like the most, and they don’t have any NBA guys, then I won’t have to wait until whatever the NBA deadline is,” Brown said. “But, if I do, then I’ll probably wait.”

Brown is also considering California, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Michigan, North Carolina and UCLA."

"I want to develop. People say I’m ready to go this year. People say I’ll be ready next year. To do what I want to do, I think it’ll take me at least two years. I don’t want to come into a situation like the NBA and have to develop for two or three years. When I come in I want to be a superstar. Coming in I want to be on superstar status. Coming in I don’t want to have to wait two years. It’s going to take development and it’s going to take hard work. I know I can make the business move and be a top five, top 10 or top 15 draft pick if I just had a solid year in college and left. I love the game too much to chase after the money. I know your heath is not secure, but I love the game. Your heath is never secure. You could get hurt anytime. I just want to develop and be the best player I can be. When I’m ready, I’m ready."

"Michigan, I have a lot of family. I’m based in Michigan so I could deflect a lot of stuff because my family is there, so Michigan is definitely going to be in the front runner of things. Talking to Coach Beilein, he’s like an offensive genius the way he gets these guys that aren’t really ranked high to be lottery picks in the draft is amazing. It’s definitely something that drew my attention. Also Michigan is a great education school. They have one of the top public universities in America with Cal-Berkeley, UCLA and North Carolina."
