Softball SWEEPS #6 Florida State in Tallahassee
After the Wolverines had their 2014 season ended last year on a walkoff home run in game 3 of the Tallahassee Super Regional, all ears of Michigan Softball fans perked up when this series was announced.
#8 Michigan went down to #6 Florida State and SWEPT the Seminoles in two thrillers. Sophomore pitcher Megan Betsa was the hero of these games. She came in for Driesenga in the bottom of the 7th of game 1 against FSU today and got the 3 outs to give Michigan the 6-5.
And then she pitched the full game in the 2nd game of the twinbill, giving Michigan a 2-1 victory.
Michigan is now 4-0 in the Unconquered Invitational in Tallahassee after mopping the floor with Western Kentucky and Georgia Tech via run rule victories of 8-0 and 10-0 yesterday, respectively.
Against Georgia Tech, senior catcher Lauren Sweet hit a grand slam. Michigan is 76-2 when a Wolverine hits a grand slam.
They play one more game in the Unconquered Invitational tomorrow. A rematch against Georgia Tech at 10am.
Michigan is now 7-1 with their only loss coming to #1 Florida on a walkoff homerun in Tampa.

None yet, just shutout/run rule victories.
Last no-hitter was by Megan Betsa last year at Alumni Field over Detroit.

I know one pitcher with a no-hitter this season, I'm assuming there are others but the NCAA stats probably won't be up for another week or two to know for sure.
Also not to take anything away from Betsa or Michigan's game against them (a no hitter is a no hitter and a win is all you can ask for) but Detroit is bad enough that they shouldn't be on the schedule. If there wasn't a run rule and M really wanted to they could probably drop thirty on Detroit the past four or five years.

Detroit was actually a late addition last year to the schedule.
IIRC, it was added like a week before the game was played due to a cancellation of the Bowling Green game that was postponed once and ultimately cancelled due to bad weather at the postponed date.
Prior to last season, the last time Michigan played Detroit was in 2001.

Betsa looked shaky against USF last weekend, I was really pulling for a strong showing from her this week.
Also a very good sign seeing Blanco get some hits this weekend; Hutch hasn't let her throw yet but she has a lot of potential to be a solid contributor at the plate this season.

I'm glad to hear about this, cause I was so pissed at women's bball due to the previous poster. Whew!

and Hutch already has the Michigan Softball Team beating some of the best teams in the land. The potential of this team is really impressive and they---including Coach Hutch--- deserve our support. I can't wait for them to come back north as I definitely plan on taking in a doubleheader or two in Ann Arbor this season.

Michigan's two victories at FSU today give them 499 all-time road wins with a 499-225 record.
Next road game is Next Friday at Alabama at 5pm on SEC Network Plus.

Amazing performance on the road against elite competition. Especially impressive, as FSU's pitcher Lacey Waldrop (who threw 10 of the 14 FSU innings) is the reigning National Player of the Year. Getting this kind of production against a team of that caliber is a big step in the right direction early. Definitely getting pumped in earnest for this year's squad!

the reigning National Player of the Year, Lacey Waldrop, pitch both games against Michigan yesterday?
Thought this should be mentioned, since it makes those two road wins Saturday even more impressive!

I remember benching in the gym by the pool. Hutch gets on the bench next to me and throws up serious weight. Her arms are only about 18 inches long but it was still damn impressive.

Run-rule 10-2 over Georgia Tech. Driesenga gets the W.
