Softball at Maryland open thread

Softball team on the road against Maryland today, up 2-0 in the 2nd after a 2-run single from Tera Blanco.  I'm going to have to head out in a bit, but I wanted to open the conversation here since there was some good news.  Game is on BTN.

HUGE nads to shake off the coach's pitch call.  Especially when she is having a bad day.  As a Coach, you hate to see this.

Bases loaded walk give us a 3-0 lead.

Kent State is 33-11, and we faced Emma Johnson, who is 7th nationally with a 1.02 ERA. Kent State is a good team, despite being a mid-major. That's not as nearly as bad as losing to Iowa, who is 16-34 on the year. No contest. We've lost six games this year: Florida twice, ASU (after sweeping them at their own field), Minnesota, Kent State, and Iowa. The Iowa one really is the only brutal one. We do have a couple of under-the-radar good wins as well, though: we run-ruled James Madison, who is 37-6 and we tagged their pitcher Megan Good, who is 4th in the country with a .95 ERA, and we also run-ruled Western Kentucky and Miranda Kramer, who is 2nd in the country with a .89 ERA.

that Emma Johnson has the 1.02 ERA, it needs to be taken in context.  Kent State has played only 2 ranked teams (4 games total): Us and Central Florida.  They split with CFU and us so not a team known for a tough Out-of-conference-schedule..

So while the data is what it is, Kent State does not play any ranked teams.  Iowa has played in 11 games against ranked teams.  They played #1 Florida twice (but lost) and lost 2 other games by 1 run (#2 Oregon and #6 La-Laf.)

So Emma Johnson is a very good pitcher, no doubt; however, she has not pitched against Top-tiered teams like Iowa has.  So in a 3-game series, it is anyone's guess as to which team would win, but I would rather play Kent State in a 3 game series rather than Iowa in 3 game series.

Edit: Stupid double post.

maintain contact with the pitching rubber through the delivery.  The foot may drag behind after the ball is released; however, the foot muct maintain contact with the ground.

Good call my the Umpires.

highly rated recruit for Coach Hutch.  She just could not adjust to this level of ball qucik enough.  She was the heir-apparent to Dorian Shaw at first.

She transferred to Maryland after a very poor Freshman season.  She was my pick for Big Ten Player of the year in her Senior Year.
