Slippery Rocks loses 48-21

Our adopted sibling was undefeated and ranked #6 in DII and #4 in the Power 10 going into the game.  "Insert sad face emoji."

For those who don't understand how this can be relevant to this board:

In other DII news, #3 Ferris State beat #7 GVSU.

No, I'm not a DII guru.  With Michigan on a bye week, I just have a little more time to dig deeper on the interwebs.

Thanks for the update and especially for the link to the history of Slippery Rock as a national phenomenon. I knew about its connection to Michigan, but didn't realize it went further back. Very cool.

Among many things that have cheapened the stadium experience at the Big House is the traditional Slippery Rock score announcement.    It was funny when they just worked it into the other scores like putting in between the Notre Dame game and maybe the OSU game score.

Now they make way too big a deal about it which actually cheapens the humor of it.    I get that they don't actually announce other game scores anymore (I guess to make room for the "what year was it" or maybe the "get loud!" request) but everything doesn't have to be over the top.

I completely agree.  Back in the 70s and 80s it felt uniquely funny when they announced the Slippery Rock scores, especially of their annual rivalry game vs Shippensburg State.

Now it seems forced and overdone, especially with the giant green "S" being posted on the video board.

Well said.

My favorite organic experience I've  been part of over the last 20 years is the wave to the kids in the University of Iowa Children's Hospital between the first and second quarters.   I knew nothing about it until attending the Michigan game @ Iowa back in 2016.

So very awesome that it brings a lot of fans to tears (myself included) when participating.

I graduated in the 70’s and learned of SRSC from the scores announced in Michigan Stadium at halftime.  The good natured relationship between the two schools was well known in our family, UM fans all.  What none of us knew at the time was that an ancestor farmsteaded after 1800 and built a gristmill on a tributary of Slippery Rock Creek from which the town of Slippery Rock and eventually the college took their names.  Odd coincidence.

I graduated from Slippery Rock high school.

I still remember my first academic counselor meeting at UofM engineering, and she said "oh we love Slipper Rock!" I had the most confused look on my face because our school never sent anyone to Michigan. Most went to SRU or other local colleges.

It was a weird feeling for sure.
