Shaun Wade still not drafted

What is going on with Shaun Wade plummeting in the draft? Dude was considered a 1st/2nd rounder last year.

I guess coming back from one more season to get schooled by NFL receivers in last game as a Buckeye is the reason.

Oooooof. Kid is probably wishing he could have a do over.

Sometimes coming back for one more year of development doesn’t result in more money / higher draft stock. It’s easy to assume every UM player that leaves early is leaving too soon but players need to do what they feel is right.

He must have had the same people advising him as Ambry Thomas**....... I was surprised to see that ESPN actually had Shakur Brown from MSU rated above him — (to be fair they had both much higher than Ambry so they must suck at their jobs).

** speaking of takes that didn’t age well.

I’m loving the Lions draft. I will be shocked if they don’t make at least one playoff appearance in the next 10 years.

My expectations have been conditioned by 50 years of fandom.
They made a major improvement by getting something for Stafford instead of having him retire a lion like Barry and Megatron. The lions can’t afford to be sentimental.

I went to the NFC championship game in DC that year. Perhaps the most one-sided football game I've ever seen. Washington won 41-10, but it wasn't that close.

RFK stadium was rockin' (literally), but for a Lion's fan it was...well, typical.

It is amazing how bad the Lions have been, and for how long.

I was on the 45 yard line, 2nd row of the upper deck.  Great seats and the best pro football game I've ever been to.  You could actually feel the upper deck shaking. Loudest sporting event I ever been at....and I've been to a lot.  The domed roof and over 80,000 winning deprived Lions fans was a potent mix.

From what I read, he played out of position and his coverage skills were exposed.  All of OSU's position groups were solid last year (obviously) except the DBs and they SUCKED which is unusual since that group is usually one of their strengths. That defensive secondary was exposed quite a few times last year.  It will be interesting to see if there is any improvement in the DB this year

Baron Browning and Wade are two guys who IMO are good late round picks. Super highly-touted athletes whose weaknesses were exposed in college.

Give them NFL coaching, put them in a scheme/position to succeed, maybe add some maturity and they could become good players - they certainly have the physical tools.

Not surprised Denver and Baltimore picked them; both have a knack for finding/developing defensive players. Even though both were drafted later than probably hoped/expected, they landed in great situations.

He played out of position at OSU, he's a S, not a CB.  That said, he did fine at nickel and slot the previous years.  Had a particularly bad year in 2020 too, but they were hurting for veteran CB play, so he was sacrificed...

This is a bad post, OP.

The kid is in the NFL and he can prove if he is good/bad enough to have a career.

Most likely Shaun Wade has achieved more, athletically than the OP and most of the board. He deserves some respect for getting to the NFL.

None of us like Buckeyes, in particular, but taking pleasure in players dropping in the draft is a bad take.

His senior year play isn't necessarily the reason he dropped. I have zero idea of his "combine/pro day" numbers, but it's possible he didn't test as well as people thought. He could have a medical red flag. Maybe he didn't interview well with teams. All of these factors would have been exposed at any point declared for the draft.

His Senior season is exactly why he dropped like a rock.  They talked about it on ESPN that he was highly rated because he played really well in the slot for a couple of years then his Sr season he wanted to move outside to show that he could cover the #1 receiver on each team & he failed.  His scouting report:  Wade has solid height and bulk and good arm length. He's an athletic corner with very good top-end speed on tape. He played primarily in the slot in 2019 with Jeff Okudah and Damon Arnette starting on the perimeter and then struggled mightily as an outside corner in 2020. He has quick feet, fluid hips and accelerates quickly out of his breaks. And he shows impressive closing burst on tape. He appears to have better recognition skills in zone coverage than in man coverage. The biggest area he needs to improve is press-man, where he needs to shoot his hands earlier and avoid opening his gate too early. And improving his hands and finishing ability will be important for his draft stock. One of his best traits is his tackling skills. He appears to be best suited as a slot corner or free safety in the NFL. -- Final evaluation

If he stayed inside he would've gone much higher with the question being can he match up on the outside but after his 2020 season there was no question because he proved that he can not
