Semi-OT: JAX WR Justin Blackmon suspended 4 games; may help D-Rob get some significant early PT
Justin Blackmon, formerly of Oklahoma State and currently the Jacksonville Jaguar's #1 wideout, has been suspended 4 games by the NFL for substance abuse. This may be good news for Denard's chances at significant early playing time, although fellow Jaguar draftee Ace Sanders from South Carolina (FML) probably benefits most. The Jags had earlier this offseason cut their #2 WR last season (Laurent Robinson), so although D-Rob is listed as a RB, depth concerns may expedite a move to WR. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/eye-on-football/22170728/report-justin-blackmon-suspended-four-games-by-nfl
In other M-related Jaguars news, Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert are in an open competition for the starting QB job. I'm sure both of them would prefer Blackmon didn't get suspended. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/517291/chad-henne
this has been suggested. But with a full training camp, could Denard be any worse than Henne or Gabbert at throwing the ball?
Not better than Henne at throwing but definitely better than Gabbert, with or without an ulnar nerve.
/S kinda
I'm not necessarily rooting for surgery, but geeze...
I have no knowledge about the potential benefits/risks of the surgical v. non-surgical treatments for this particular injury, so anything I say on the topic will be ignorant. So here goes ignorance: get the damn surgery, Denard! We want you back to 100 percent and you've been hurting/numb for 6 months+ now!
Yes he can, a lot worse. I love Denard, but there's no way. I don't think some people understand just how bad Denard would be as an NFL QB.
Chad Henne, the all time passing leader at Michigan? I love me some Denard but Chad Henne on his worst day is a better passer than Denard on his best.
Denard is actually #4 all time passing at Michigan.
Jump balls to a triple teamed Junior Hemmingway have a funny way of being intercepted in the NFL.
Matthew Stafford would disagree, but then, the Jags, like most other NFL teams, are experiencing a severe Megatron shortage.
with a TD/INT ratio of 5 to 4...
His sophomore season is the only year his passing stats could pass for somewhat respectable, and even then we were all hoping he would get much better at throwing, which he most certainly did not. Him being #4 all time at Michigan is more of a testament to how his big play/running ability bought him more time at the QB position than he should've had, than it does his actual ability as a QB.
I don't think there's any way he makes it on the field as a QB. I do hope his arm fully recovers though. I think his usefulness is improved if defenses have to respect the possiblity of him throwing it on a gadget play when he gets the ball.
Your logic and reason hurts my fandom.
about that because Denard was drafted a RB, not as a WR.On the other hand, it could help Ace Sanders get some early PT in the slot. Mo Massaquoi and Jordan Shipley are most likely the ones that will see increased reps during those four games.
Like I say in the post, Ace Sanders is likely the biggest beneficiary and Denard was drafted as a RB, but if the Jaguars realize that Denard may bring something more to the table than career backups like Massaquoi and Shipley, they may change their tune at least temporarily. I'm just speculating, of course.
Freakin Momo
I cringed when they drafted Blackmon last year....he doesn't, IMO have the ceiling of an AJ Green or Julio Jones or a Michael Floyd.
The Jags need to focus on making their bones on defense this year and climbing back to .500. Next year is when they can finish when they started, drafting more elite pieces on offense and defense, and getting their franchise QB.
I hope that Denard can keep himself injury free!
What the hell happened to your mgopoints?
After getting sent into the abyss by the mods, I have fought my way back to single digits.
Interesting. I've seen the Mods dock huge points on many an occasion, but never an amount that the mgouser could overcome on their own, without having their points re-instated. Congrats on being back in the black.
go longer term than mods usually do, I've noticed. I don't know what the case was here, but that wasn't profit's MO and he was the only mod the board had when those points got docked (and it wasn't an insurmountable amount of points either).
We can talk about points now. What kind of fight club is this!!!
all the time, so I guess a pretty awful one :(.
Good, good. He'll be able to see some playing times at WR.
But I think that the Jags will use Shoelace a lot at RB position, he can be the long term answer at this position for them.
Show them Denard !
I was never sold on him as a top wide receiver in the NFL anyway.
I was at the fiesta bowl his senior year and would have taken him #1 as I walked out the door..... NFL is dumb.

But congrats on coming out of the closet.
I'd also like to celebrate my discovery that the Jags are playing the Jets in preseason, so I'll be able get cheap seats on E-bay and show up in a Michigan hat. (Season ticket-holders resent paying full price for pre-season, but we rookie-watchers love cheering on the newbies trying to make an impression. Especially when they're Denard.)
Welcome to the board!
Jacksonville assigned jersey numbers to rookies today and Denard ended up with #29. I was hoping Jordan Shipley would switch from #16 so Shoelace could nab it.
