semi-OT: Best CFB Game of 2008, and why

Submitted by The Original Seth on
I'd probably vote for the SEC Championship Game. It was extremely evenly matched, and really could have gone either way. Both teams were absolutely stacked with talent, especially at WR and RB, and everybody showed up to play. A pitched battle between insane defenses, which in my mind (pace Mike Leach) makes for the most exciting kind of football. Plus it came down to the fourth quarter. What would get y'all's votes?

There were a few possibilities: Texas / Oklahoma, Texas / Tech, Texas / Ohio State, USC / Ohio State, I also enjoyed Georgia / Georgia Tech as well. My personal favorite was USC / Notre Dame. Hearing the sarcastic cheer at the end of the third quarter, when Notre Dame got its first first down, was pretty funny.

but because I dislike Leach's offense and despise Bobby Knight as a human being, I rooted for Texas in that game. Hated seeing Crabtree get the winning TD. I'm currently enjoying his idiot holdout over his demands for an even more insane amount of money than he would be getting anyhow. I hope he's a bust, and if he misses most of training camp while his posse of hangers-on and greedy family members count their "winnings" before he even signs a contract, he'll be on his way to disappointment.

Texas coming back in the last minute to beat OSU. Always like the look of OSU fans when they have victory in their hands and then...poof... it's gone.

In fairness, OSU played very well that day. At the same time, though, what a boneheaded call on defense: with only a few seconds to go and one chance remaining for Texas to score, you're really NOT going to drop everybody back into deeper coverage and only blitz 4 against a team with a non-existent run game that you'd held to 50 yards on 30 attempts? [People with greater insight feel free to contradict my assessment]

Maybe Michigan-Wisconsin was a facade, but still, it was an incredibly exciting game. Remember John Thompson's interception, Dual Threet breaking away for a 60 yard run and the missed 2 point conversion? Good stuff.

defensive game of the year: Penn State - Ohio State. Fun to see TP's fumble offensive game of the year: Texas - Oklahoma. Just a plain shootout. letdown of the year: Florida - Georgia. Was a spanking from the 2nd quarter on HOLY SHIT game of the year - Alabama - Georgia. Exactly like 2006 Mich - ND game in the sense where everyone was saying WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!!?

was absolutely the greatest game. The play Crabtree made was incredible, as was the throw from Harrell. Add in the stakes on the line in that game, and the environment in Lubbock. The blackout was nuts, and the stadium and Red Raider is pretty damn intimidating

This game was amazing, so many huge plays in the 4th quarter. The texas safety dropping the interception that should have ended the game, then crabtree getting the game winning touchdown, then watching the crowd jump onto the field and rush it three seperate times
