Season Ticket Holders Getting Screwed

Submitted by 2Blue4You on

I know this subject has been brought up a ton in past years and even more this year with the lame home slate and low ticket sales, so immediate apologies.  Supposedly the Athletic Office has employees using "modern" methods of determining the pulse of its loyal followers so maybe they read MGoBlog?

With tickets once again going for around $24 on Stubhub and the Athletic Department offering faculty tickets, hotdog, pop, tee shirts, etc. for $42 a ticket, I once again feel like a fool paying about $65 a ticket AND a seat donation to keep my season tickets.  This on top of paying (I mean donating) $2000 to get 4 seats switched into my name a few years ago.  Couldn't they roll out some free hot dogs, a pop, a program, or an M-Den gift card to show their appreciation?  What is the upside to having season tickets anymore besides the personal pride?  It is no longer a distinction that put you ahead of the mile long waitlist, that has been eroded away.

Luckily for them, I live in AA and have significant time, money, and some emotion left wrapped up in Michigan sports, but kids come along, priorities shift, and there may come a time when...  And I consider myself a positive fan and as diehard as they come.  Maybe someone in the athletic department reads this and if it is news to them, they are sorely out of touch with the reality of the situation.

Happy Friday and see you all tomorrow.  For those of you without season tickets, enjoy your free hot dog! Go Blue!

Send your e-mail the Regents.

Brandon answers to the President who anwers to the Regents.  If the Regents get pissed off, they will put pressure on the President who will pressure Brandon.  The Regents recently faced Brandon on the fireworks deal.  The fact that it was done in public with such critical comments by the Regents tells me that Brandon may be on thinner ice than we think.

As a matter of fact, do you mind if I basically cut and paste your post and use it as an e-mail to the Regents?

You don't like it-don't renew. It's your only real "voice" to let the Athletic Department know you're pissed.
Anything else is simply sound and fury signifying nothing.

Will you complain about your $65 seat when a big name comes to town this year or next, and Stub Hub tickets are in the hundreds? Pretty disingenuous to compare them to lower tier games.

Welcome to Section 43 ;)  although I won't be there tomorrow.  In a different section.

There's a season ticket holder in 43 that is the most fun fan ever - TV is never as good as being there.

I am still amazed by the fact that during my formative years, I had very little hope I would EVER have the opportunity to get season tickets. People actually willed them to siblings, I was told.

It's the same situation at Oakland Hills CC. After the crash in '08, many members couldn't afford to pay the annual dues. You can join Oakland Hills today if inclined, and the initiation fees have been cut dramatically since the "old days."

You are paying for the OSU and MSU games when they are at home. Say OSU was a home game would you rather pay 30-40 bucks for the other games only to have to dish out 200-300 for that one OSU game?

I don't know if you season ticket holders are getting screwed or not, but I know if I lived close enough to make every home game, I would be season ticket holder no matter what.  Living on the left coast makes it hard to get to see games at the Big House.  So, I only get to a game once or twice every 3-4 years.

I'd love to have season tickets regardless of the secondary market or a "bad" year home schedule wise.   To me there is no question of getting screwed or not, you have in your possession something a lot of us can or never will be able to have.

can't watch the rivalry games in the stands - the normals know nothing of football. (thx for buying tickets though!)

I'll go to one or two games a year against the creampuffs - allows me to enjoy the enviroment and not stress over the game. I get my fill of being back on campus and not having to listen to the 'durr hurr' crowd when we're battling.
