Season ending injury - offense

If it is not proper protocol to share not-yet-confirmed information regarding a player injury, please consider this a lesson learned for me. But I figure the community may find this relevant. Again: the injury to an offensive player is confirmed, but the identity is, as of now, not yet.

Via one of the paid sites, it appears that a player from the offense is now being ruled out for the season. The reporter was not permitted to confirm the name, but from the hints, the community seems to agree that it is Eric All who is afflicted.

Regardless of who it is, this is deeply sad to hear we have already lost a player for the season. It seems we are being hit hard on injuries - Cade, Edwards, NHG, various O-lineman, etc… - for the season being so young.

Best wishes to the afflicted player.

All wouldn't come back, no matter the injury.

  • Bell projected as a late draft pick, 5th-6th round. Athletic and a good run blocker, but had never produced as "the dude." With a productive year, he could rise up to the 3-4th rounds. Another year was important for his draft position. But with his injury, he risked not being drafted and rushing back from injury to try and make a roster as an UDFA. He needed to return.
  • All is a great route runner, catcher, and run blocker. He'd probably be a 3-5 round pick unless his production exploded this year. Even with a similar injury as Bell, he'd still likely be drafted in that range. He has virtually no UDFA risk, even if his injury makes him not ready in time for next year's NFL opening day.

There is too much smoke on this one.

Basically what people are saying is that the injury could be played through, but will require surgery at some point.  And apparently it is having a big effect, so the thought is that having the surgery now may be the better option.  But I don't know that a decision has been reached yet, which is why no one is confirming anything.

Yeah, obviously only rumors at this point, but assuming the situation as described is accurate it fits All. If surgery now can potentially have him better prepared for the draft and help explain a season that may otherwise look underwhelming (due to the injury), it makes all the sense in the world for him to go with the procedure ASAP.

And Dominick Guidice was just starting to make some headway on the Offensive line. But he can get a mediacal red shirt, I believe, and will still have 4 years eligibility.

There's a thread on reddit about this.  An "alum with connections to the AD" is saying All is debating whether to have season ending surgery to get better so he can either prepare for the draft or get healthy for a return next season.
