Saturday NCAA Basketball

This Wiscy/Indiana game has been legit. The Wisconsin loss from last week was one of only games I didn’t see this year. I didn’t realize Wisconsin was doing much in BT, thought middle of pack like most. Realized off record they are rolling, and could win BT.

In watching most of game today, this Wisconsin team is legit. Not scared of anyone or fear Michigan can’t beat anyone if they play well, but will be a tough out next week and the big tourney! Lots of weapons.

How things shaking out for seeds for next week? Wisconsin lock 1? Michigan range from 7-9?

Not exactly. Still a chance MSU gets the 1 seed, in which case we'll have to play them as the 8/9 seed. This only happens if we beat Maryland, MSU beats OSU, and Illinois beats Iowa (around a 15% chance of all of that happening).

There's also a chance we get the 7 seed, in which case we'll also have to play MSU (who in this case would be the 2 seed). This scenario is wiped out if Rutgers loses to Purdue (game on right now), in which case we'd play Purdue in the 8/9 game for certain, and would have to wait out on the above games to see who the 1 seed is.

IU should have won - the game turned into a football match the last 5min as the refs refused to call anything on Wisc

Looking at Lunardi NCAA Tourney projections, I see Michigan has a higher KenPom rating than at least two teams from seeds 2 on down.

Staying out of an 8/9 game will be valuable, as the projected top seeds are all at the top of the KenPom rankings,  Also, Michigan's current #11 20.72 rating would have ranked #17 last year.

It will be interesting to see where Michigan ends up seeding wise in the NCAA tournament. They're likely to end up with 12 or 13 losses, which is more than anyone else in the top 25. Of course, the SOS is going to be highest. The team is better than their record, I think, as evidenced by the close losses and low luck rating per KenPom. I'm not sure if the selection committee will give them much credit for that, so they might end up slightly under-seeded. Torvik has us projected as a 5 but Bracket Matrix has us as the lowest 6. Assuming we finish L @ MD, W vs. Rutgers, L it BTT QF, 6 feels right to me, and 7 or feels unfair to me, I think this team is better than that. Despite a .500 league record, our NC wins should bump us up.

I dunno if we’ll truly end up under seeded. I’d like to think the committee would be able to contextualize the Livers-less losses which would soften the blow from those “L”s. Though college basketball being what it is, I wouldn’t truly sweat the seeding so long as it’s lower than an 8.

I’d live to see Michigan play Wisconsin on a neutral court, I think Michigan wins that game with Brooks in the lineup

Now only possible 1 seeds are Wisconsin and MSU.
For Michigan to get to 7 they need a win, Illinois over Iowa and OSU over MSU. That would set up playing MSU in the second round. Only way for MSU to get the 1 seed over Wisconsin is for them to win and Michigan wins.

No matter what happens tomorrow Michigan would play MSU or Wisconsin in a hypothetical quarterfinal.

Highly likely Michigan plays Rutgers in the first round. Which is good news. Outside shot at playing Purdue.

We're locked in to the 8/9 game vs Rutgers. 8 seed with a win tomorrow, 9 seed with a loss. The #1 will be Wisconsin unless Michigan, Michigan St. and Illinois win tomorrow (in which case MSU will be #1).

Just win tomorrow, build some momentum going into BTT. Confident we get some swag tomorrow, nobody will want to play us.
