My first post and I can' figure out how to use this thing correctly...……..now I understand others issues with posting links.

Well it looks like they found their guy.

Some victims of sexual abuse like to be referred to as survivors vs victims.   They see it as more empowering and less helpless.  Some however are now asking to bring back victim as it’s more descriptive.

I have never experienced something that traumatic so whatever works best for them is good by me.

Yeah, I can see both words.  My most traumatic life event was being hit by a drunk driver, an accident that killed the companion in my car.

I would think of myself as a "drunk driver survivor" - it felt empowering.  But then I'd think about my companion.  She, not by choice, was definitely NOT a survivor.  She was a victim.  And I suppose I am too.

It’s good they finally got of their incestuous leadership criteria.  His first statement included meeting with and understanding the survivors.  Very not like the bullypig Engler who preferred the how much money would it take for you to go away approach.

He may be qualified under normal circumstances, but these are not normal circumstances for MSU. It is yet another missed opportunity for MSU to send a message that they are serious about the aftermath of the Nassar crimes and other revelations. Almost inconceivable they didn’t hire a qualified woman candidate

He's an outside hire who, on his first try, said a non-tone deaf thing about Nassar survivors ... and hasn't even undone it yet.

Compared to national expectations, that equals one outrageous success for the hiring committee.

I hope he doesn't raise tuition for students. My daughter will be a freshman in the fall and I'm not going to appreciate paying for the past administration's malfeasance

First outside hire at president since 1985. Good result for the taxpayers of the state of Michigan to bring in a highly credentialed outside leader.

His experience may be very helpful as they get FRIB up and running.  That's an enormous project/program for the university.

His experience is all at schools without big money athletics. That alone gives him a completely different perspective than MSU has had at the top. It sounds like an appropriate hire for moving forward, a sign their Board of Trustees is less awful than it's been.

This seems like a surprisingly good choice. A scientist, with focus on academics presumably strong. Longevity: 10 years in one place. From a university that has interest in athletics but is not driven by athletics. And a person who seems to have that balance himself.
