RV Tailgating

Submitted by tomcat on September 4th, 2019 at 1:49 PM

As a student I never looked at where the RVs and Trailers were tailgating, now that I plan on making a triumphant return a decade or so later, I'm looking for suggestions on where to park. What I can see is "Park n Party" pretty much regulates parking passes now. I was looking at Pioneer High School but I'm not sure if they even allow RVs?? "Useful Stuff" on tailgating for this cite is out of date because Fingerly lumber is no longer an option.....anyway does anybody have suggestions on where to look/purchase an RV parking pass or other option. We are targeting the Michigan State game which I know will only make it more difficult to find a pass. Thanks for your help!

I've been wanting some info on this myself. I just bought a 37' travel trailer and would love to get my camper and a generator out there and enjoy a Friday night outside the stadium.

michiganeventparking.com is the site that handles the parking in Pioneer.  They do have an RV lot there.  Looking at the site it appears most games are sold out of RV passes.  You could always reach out to see if they will have any open up.

I have a general question regarding tailgating that I am interested to hear the responses to.  I don't tailgate.  I tailgated several places when I was in college, sometimes attending the games afterward but most often not.  For a lot of reasons, mostly time, if I go to a game I am going directly there and pretty much leaving directly after.  Perhaps I will go out to dinner after the game.

As such, my question is this.  I find drinking for a period of time and then not drinking anymore to be a really shitty feeling.  Two hours after I am done drinking it is like the end of a buzz and the beginning of a hangover wrapped up into one with a shitty taste in my mouth and really I just want to go to sleep.  That would be around the middle of the second quarter.

Do most people who tailgate for a game drink?  Are there ways to continue drinking once you enter the stadium?  I ask not because I have the intention to do it, but because when I hear people talk about tailgating they talk so much about alcohol and what they are going to drink, but honestly doesn't it make the game suck?  I understand if beer is sold in a venue, you can get another beer and "keep the party going," but for a Michigan game, seriously the last thing I would want to do before I enter it is drink.

I just get pretty fucked up before the game and by the end of the game I just have a solid buzz.  Drink lots of water during the game.  Sometimes I'll bring in some liquor and make a Jack & Coke or whatever out of the souvenir cups (drink 1/2 the coke, pour in the jack, profit).

And no, alcohol has never made any game suck

Hmmm.  I guess that different people react to alcohol in much different ways.  If I get super drunk the next stop is bed.  I don't know if I have ever gone from super fucked up to a solid buzz.  That path is just not available to me.

I rarely drink and when I do, it's not enough to even get buzzed. Tailgating, to me, is catching up with friends/family and eating some good food. Throw a UM game on top of that, and it's a great day. A little more 'tailgating' after the game allows traffic to thin out and makes for a nice ride home. YMMV.

I just went through this in reserving a spot for the Rutgers game. I am bringing a RV and ended up booking through Park N Party on State St.  We considered and would probably prefer parking at Pioneer but they have a High School game on Friday night so we would not have been able to arrive until after 10:30-11pm on Friday.  I called the Michigan Event Parking number and they were extremely helpful in providing me info.

Good luck and Go Blue!

Check out the Brown Lot, if it is still there. I believe it is the Wrestling Gym, we partied there with an RV a few years back. You can actually sneak onto the golf course then and walk into the stadium on the east side of the course.

The people who sit behind us at the stadium have been parking their motorhome at Fingerle for years.  Apparently, they found a spot at the lot where the bowling alley is on S. Industrial (it's near Stimson which runs right into State St. near the golf course.  It's not too bad of a walk, but further than Pioneer.  I'm not sure if that place sells single game spots or you need to buy a season pass.  You can always check into it.  Good luck.

I have a guy I used for MSU last year off state across from the golf course. He’s got a lot behind a auto shop. He’s charging $350 for a RV for MSU. Not sure if we are to post info or sell on this site so if someone could give me the ok I’ll post his info.
