Role of Muskegon pistol on Lamar Jackson development
Good article and mentions how their high school coach didn't know what to do with Lamar Jackson as his new quarterback but he found the Muskegon pistol through youtube search.

I expected to come here and find out Jackson's exceptional play this year was due to constant threats from someone with a pistol. "Win this game, or I shoot you in the scrotum in the locker room!"

Ouch, right in the ol' flesh balloon, eh?

Yup, the ol' marble smuggler...

Well John Harbaugh had a pistol to the head with a likely firing if his bet on Jackson did not come up big.

That's fine motivational tool, especially for parents. Waving a gun around usually gets the kids to pay attention pretty fast.

Muskegon is currently ranked #16 in the country and their starting QB is a dynamic runner. Cameron Martinez is heading to OSU as a WR next season

#16 in the country is wild

Muskegon has blew everyone out this year. Their only close game is against EGR where they won by one score but they won 49-10 in a rematch last weekend. Muskegon is a heavy favorite to win it all in Division 3. They dominated Detroit King and DeLaSalle, both of the two top programs in the state.

Also winningest high school football program in Michigan and #8 winningest in the country (Max Preps as of the end of 2017).
Also produced all-time great Wolverine Bennie Oosterbann (one of the eleven greatest college football players in the first century of the game, Big 10 batting champion, All-American in basketball, coached U of M baseball, basketball, and football (1 national championship)).

i've been watching cameron martinez since he was a freshman at my alma mater (he transferred from muskegon catholic to muskegon before his junior year), and he is gonna be a STAR in columbus. whatever 'it' is, he's got it.

Dude was an absolute freak playing in division 8. It made a lot of sense when he transferred to Muskegon.
I watched him his sophomore year when my alma mater beat MCC in the playoffs. I’ve actually played in a couple MCC/Mendon playoff games back in the day...

Pickle Rick, we probably know some of the same people or even each other. Small towns and whatnot

he was indeed a division 8 freak...the transfer to muskegon made sense for visibility, but his stepdad is also the muskegon a.d. (his dad went to mcc, which is how he landed there originally). that he's continued being insanely productive is no surprise whatsoever.
mendon is one hell of a football program. i would've loved to play you guys, but you were a lot smaller than we were when i played, so we never matched up...and now we're in d6, so who knows if we'll ever bump heads again. too bad, too!

Some pretty good coaching genes in that family.

Lamar sounds like a good guy. I'm really enjoying seeing him succeed.

.45 or .38? Was the serial number etched off? <<Law & Order sound effect>>

Hate that he is going to OSU...!

I've wondered why Mich didn't recruit Martinez. How do you let a talent like that out of the state?
November 20th, 2019 at 2:16 PM ^
Greg Mattison was his recruiter and I believe his first big offer came from Michigan.

Didn't know that, thanks. I believe OSU recruited him as a safety. Based on what I've read, I'm not clear as to why. He seems like a player that could be maximized as a full-time slot, 3rd down RB or wildcat.
