RNG Is A Real Asshole At Times. But We're Still Making Progress Toward the Pacific - Risk Day 9

Submitted by Michigan CFB R… on March 31st, 2020 at 11:37 AM

RNG is really weird. Last night, we won territories with 8% and 10% odds, while losing territories with 76%-85% chances. Now our Glorious Blue Caravan looks more like a kindergartener's latest painting. But that's OK. Our goal is to get to the West Coast, and we got one step closer by grabbing Utah.

If we're going to have a real chance to win this thing, though, we NEED more of you to sign up. It's super easy and is the only form of intercollegiate sports competition happening these days (seriously 2020....can we have a do-over? Please?).

Oh, and some fun news....the Irish got killed off last night and the Gators were poached despite having 90%+ odds of surviving. Yay schadenfreude!

We have a non-aggression pact with Wisconsin. It’s very important that if you are playing do not attack Wisconsin owned territories, including the ones in Michigan. If you receive an order to attack a Wisconsin owned territory then it is because we have communicated with Wisconsin on that territory. If you have any questions about an order, then please DM us privately on reddit or discord.

How Does the Game Work?

On turn 1, each team starts with their home territory. It is up to each team to recruit players and coordinate moves. You can choose to defend any territory that your team currently holds or attack any adjacent territory. A "roll" happens each evening at 11 PM EST to calculate which teams have won which territories that turn based on the moves that were made by individual players. The ultimate goal is to conquer as much of the map as possible for your team. There are a number of different ways to do this, such as through recruiting players in sheer numbers or forming alliances with other teams.

Steps To Play Every Day:

  1. Sign up for a reddit.com account if you don’t have one already
  2. Visit collegefootballrisk.com – Click Sign in with Reddit – Select Michigan as your team
  3. Visit https://michigancfbrisk.com/ - click “Login using Reddit” – Click “Get an Assignment”
  4. Return to collegefootballrisk.com – Scroll to the bottom of the page and execute your assignment (Note: Simply clicking action so that it becomes highlighted gray confirms the move. There’s no submit or confirm button needed)

Since everyone feels the need to complain about Draftegeddon even though they can just ignore it, I'll go ahead and say these posts annoy me. Yes clicked on the post just to say that.

Plus, Axis & Allies is way better than Risk.

Yes, A&A is.

I did this "Risk" thing 2 years ago. Several months of getting a daily order, and clicking on the territory assigned.

So basically, someone is playing Risk and deciding strategy. But it wasn't me.

No thanks.

I'm not sure how different this version is of the original Reddit one, but it was really flawed. In the real game of Risk it's nearly impossible to an army of like 3 to be outdone by an army of 100. The number of times you could pound away at the 3 would be so much that there's no way they could defeat you that many times in a row.

Also, if you defeat 5 out of team's 6 territories in this game on a turn. If you go to squash that team's last territory the next day you are essentially battling everyone who "occupied" the defeated 5 territories the day before. So basically when you conquer a territory you just force the other team to fortify all their troops back to another owned territory. I think the players that defended territories that lost should sit out the next turn. The same could go for players that attack a territory and lose.

That's why I think this game is flawed in the fact that there will never be a sole winner of the map unless teams just stop playing. I get having it last longer than a week, but there's other ways around that as well.

I’m no expert but that map doesn’t look good.

Butch: “Do you see Lefors out there?”

Sundance: ”Lefors?  No why?”

Butch: “Thank God for that. For a moment there I thought we were in trouble.”
