rivals observations from practice

OK, they said that from what they saw, Sheridan was better. They said he's showing a better arm than he did the in the spring, and can throw on the run.

They said that Threet hasn't been making decisions as well, and also isn't throwing it as well.

They said that right now Feagin lacks the arm strength to play much.

They noted Michael Shaw being particularly impressive - alluding LB's and lineman while running over Cissoko.

And finally:

"Despite the questions at quarterback, some observers said the offense did move the ball at times and put some points on the board during Saturday’s scrimmage session despite the fact that the defense is outstanding (“off the map”) was how it was described."

From their description, it sounds like he is still playing some RB. The drill in which they observed this stuff had him lining up as an RB.

I'm starting to get the impression (or perhaps, starting to hope) that this isn't a meaningful question. The reports make it sound like the skill positions are all sort of interchageable. Which, if true, would be awesome to watch.

hopefully Threet just had a bad day. i really don't like the idea of Sheridan as the #1 QB.

did they say anything about Terrence Robinson? have you heard anything?

I've heard he has been impressive right along with the other freshmen McGuffie, Shaw and Cissko. He will be in the slot and with his small frame I'm really looking forward to watching him in the open field. Everyone seems to talk about the other freshmen and forget about him, he will open some eyes once the season starts.

Don't remember what his 40 was but watching some of his videos he looks like a blazer down the sideline.

Rich Rod had been complimentary of him in the past - no mention today. Remember - he's speaking off the cuff, so it's possible that when he lists freshmen he expects to contribute, he's not getting to them all.

4 min padded practice video is up on Rivals. I really like "The Michigan Drill" they run with the RB and three levels of blockers. I try not to get too enthusiastic over cherry-picked practice highlights, but Shaw and McGuffie look like they deserve the praise they're getting.

What part of "walk-on quarterback" and "sometimes it looks like the offensive line is having a pillow-fight" gets you optimistic?

It doesn't really matter to me whether the QB is a walk-on or not. Just the fact that either one looks serviceable helps ease some of my worries. That Shaw and McGuffie might flash their potential this year is icing. So basically the fact that the offense has a heartbeat it what made me optimistic.

Those of you who have never played a sport might want to take the comments about the D, well all of the comments really, with a grain of salt.

I am sure the D looks all-universe in practice. Possibly because there are practicing against a struggling offense that they have seen ad nausem throughout spring and summer. Lots of defenses/offenses look great in practice when playing against their sub-par counterparts. You might want to reserve judgment until you see them in action against another team.

You don't think your experience in something athletic helps just a bit in knowing that RR may not be completely truthful about how his team his? Or not being fascinated by things like a scoop and score drill that every football team in the country does? Or not freaking out over tiny mistakes in practice that happen all the time to every team?

I have got to admit you are right.  In fact I think anybody who hasn't played sports should not be allowed to comment because it is obvious they don't get it.  Do you think we should draw the line at high school, middle school or neighborhood pickup games?

good on you dex. i agree with you that what coaches tell the media (or even what the media honestly thinks they're seeing on the field) should be taken with a grain of salt. at the end of these next 2 weeks we'll be told who the QB is and then we can freak out/ be relieved/ whatever.
